Does Anyone Here Have a Home DVD Recorder (not a PC Burner)

My uncle is looking to buy a dvd recorder for his home so he can use it like a VCR and copy his VHS Tapes to DVD. I don't really know much when it comes to these home burners, does anyone have a home dvd recorder that could give me some info on what to look for in buying one? My uncle was looking to buy a Panasonic DMR-E80HS because it has a internal 80gig hard drive but so he can edit the video, are any advantages to buying this one? He's willing to spend about 700 dollars on one.

Phillips makes a set top DVD recorder that can record television and VHS tapes. You can connect the VHS right into the DVD recorder and make copies of the VHS tapes to DVD.

i saw a panasonic dvd recorder in costco for about 350.00. a bit pricey, but it looks interesting. for now i'm sticking to tapes.

also, i wonder about the utility of a dvd recorder. i mean, most of what i watch is timeshifted from a dvr. i rarely record stuff on tape anymore. with every bigger hard drives in the dvr's, and blu-ray right around the corner with 27 gb or recording per disc, it makes you think twice about a dvd recorder that's more than 200.00
