2 plus a valet key?

thank you

The reason i ask is because i want to buy a used car privately sold, and someone put an idea/paranoia in my head to get all the keys incase the person steals the car after selling it.

Dude, if they were planning on doing this, you're screwed anyway. They could have just gone to OSH and had another key zapped for a buck fifty.

I've traded in cars to dealerships and still have some of the original keys and fobs...I had set these aside for safe keeping and re-discovered them during housecleaning seesions by accident. I'm sure this is rampant.

The odd thing is that dealers know you get multiple keys but I've never been asked for more than the master key and one fob.

yeah, you can make a copy in 5 minutes at any hardware store and even many drug stores. it's not like having "all" the keys ensures he won't keep one, whether on purpose or by accident. i have about 4 keys to my car lying around my house, my parents have one or two at their house, my gf has one, and i'm considering giving one to my mechanic to ease early-bird drop-offs. every single one of them is a copy. i never even got an original when i bought the car.
