I've never attempted to repair an LCD before and I was given a 20" Sceptre Naga III. I looked it up and supposedly it had a *VA panel in it, so I decided to give it a shot to make it work.

By some miracle of god I found a second one, exact same model, at work that had a scratched up screen and was labeled as "image flickers", so I took that home.

Upon testing the original one I was given, the thing wouldn't even turn on 75% of the time, whereas 25% of the time it would but nothing showed up on the screen and you couldn't turn it off. Using common sense I decided this was a power issue and took the LCD apart. Besides the plastic frame, I had the LCD panel enclosed in a metal frame, as well as a back frame that housed three boards. One of them provided USB connectivity, one had the power plug on it, and the other one had what appeared the be the display chip.

I took the power board out, and then after tearing the 2nd monitor apart, replaced the power board. I psuedo put the LCD back together enough to safely test it, and it powered on. I could now turn it off and on, and got a no signal window. I plugged it into my PC and got video, but there was a horizontal bar of pixels across the screen that were swimming/flickering. I figured that the panel itself must be fine because the backlights were bright, there were no damaged pixels, pressure points, or cracks, so I went about replacing the display board.

Unfortunately, when I did, and tested the LCD on my PC again, I'd still get a picture, except everything on the screen was flickering like crazy and making wild colors. This seems to match up with what the sticker said (image flickers) of the broken LCD that I took the board from. One odd thing I noticed was that the heatsink appeared to have broken its contacts holding it onto the display chip. It wasn't thermal epoxied, Sceptre seemed to think using cheap white glue would hold the heatsink down.

Am I to assume that I just need to find a *good* display board, and I will have these beastly working?

*CLIFFS*
1) LCD wouldn't power on
2) Replaced power board, now it powers on but has image issues
3) Replaced display board, now the image has further issues, massive flickering
4) Display board came from broken LCD marked as "image flickers"
5) Do I just need to get a new display board?
