Does anyone here ever get the feeling that they're just run down?

Every Friday.

I try to go fishing on the weekends to get over it. Makes me feel better, and by Monday I am ready to go for another week. But I like fishing, so YMMV.

Been there (burnt out) for a month now. I have good days but for the most part, I can't get out of my current rut. I keep hoping it passes but it's obvious that it's not happening until I leave this job for something else. Just hard to do after being here since 1993.

Edit: Working out at the gym/running seems to help me the most.

When was the last time you took a vacation and did something you really wanted to do? I am not talking about taking two days off tacked on to your weekend. I am talking about taking at least a solid Mon-Fri off. If it has been over a year then I'd say you should try hard to make it happen. Too many people in the work force today aren't taking their vacations. You would be surprised how much it can add to your productivity and generally make you feel better for a while.

Well, the last time I took a real vacation was when I went to Bristol for the night race.

...and it looks like the next time is going to be the same. And my vacation time is probably going to be maxed out while I'm there (because of when time card day is). That might be it.

Sit around the house for a day not doing anything productive, after that I'm usually ready to get back at it.

Working out usually helps too.

One of three things helps me recharge after a long day in the ER, (in no particular order), 1.) my girlfriend, 2.) sleeping, 3.) video games.

If not any of those then just going out after work with my co-workers and getting a little sloshed like the other night....damn execution style murder victim bothered me a wee bit.

I feel rundown when I'm tired. I'll start going to sleep earlier and earlier until I don't feel rundown anymore, then the cycle repeats itself.

thats probably part of my problem.

other than the occasional 3 day weekend or so, i haven't taken a nice vacation since i started this job. not that i have much vacation time to use anyway (7 days total this year and i've used 2 already). this was over 2.5 years ago.

i usually try to save my time for when i think i might want to do something but that never happens.

even when i did take a week's vacation at my last job, i just sat around the house and played games or something boring like that. i don't have the money to go anywhere and i don't have anyone to go do stuff with, so yeah, taking a vacation seems like a waste of time to me.

I feel that way right now. I go back 'home' every weekend that I can to play with my dog.

Also, and this goes for everyone, if you don't have "an escape" then find one. What I mean is that you need to find a place or activity that you can do on a regular basis that you really enjoy. At the risk of sounded incredibly cheesy, make sure it brings you to your "happy place" where you feel little to no stress. It also helps if this place/activity is either really cheap or free.

Here's a special formula I developed for when you're run down:

Happy Place = (Interweb + P0rn)*(Hand)^x ; where x=infinity
Happy Place = Winnar!

Put on a good album and just kick it for a day. A lot of times you need to do something introspective to break out of the funk. I typically put in some headphones and just walk around a crowded place for awhile and do some people watching.. put things into perspective a little bit... see the world through someone else's eyes for a few minutes.

Every day man. 3 kids. A highly demanding job that I don't enjoy. Bills. And my wife had a stroke this year. Life sucks man. The only thing that keeps me sane is working out.

Yes. Can't get out of it.. tried many things. Only thing that will work is a higher paying job (maybe not, need to be happy where i work) and more importantly selling my house so i don't have to struggle with finances anymore.
