I'm only toying w/this idea, since I actually do use the second box for other things. I rebuilt the DinkyDell with a new mobo/memory. Now, SonofDinkyDell is in my old Antec KS282 case, w/two case fans. It's not as loud as my main rig, but I still can't sleep with the fan noise. I've thought about unplugging the front intake fan, but the CPU is OC'ed (550@733) and the GF2 generates a fair bit of heat, so I thought it best to maintain a steady stream of fresh air.

I thought of putting the server in a closet, with no monitor or KB (if I can get away w/that..haven't tried yet) but am worried about ventilation probs. Anyone do this?

I have a couple machines in a closet, but they don't generate that much heat.....
you should remove the GF2 and replace it with something cooler.... ;)

Make sure fresh air is constantly circulated throughout the closet. I am always surprised how quickly a PC can heat up a small space. Everything throws off heat. CPU, memory, HDD, chipset, video card, NIC, power supply, you name it. Thing is anything that can circulate the air will also add a fair bit of racket.

Any other place aroundthe house you can place it?

Bummer. I knew putting it in the closest would be a bad idea. The closet I had in mind is kinda small and has no ventilation. Oh well. I've thought about putting it under one of my snake tanks, in the dining room. Plenty of space there, but how to get the CAT5 to my router? (I live in an apartment and have no access to the attic/rafter area. Bummer. I guess it's staying where it is for now...and off at night. Thanks for the responses and ideas. :)
