Does anyone have the Volcano 9 "Coolmod"?

Hi, I have this HSF, and when I took off my mobo's (Expox 8Kha+) Power/HDD LED's, and then replaced them with the Coolmod ones, something is wrong. When I bootup, the red light flashes, but there is no blue light, and when I am idle in windows, there is no light at all.

I hooked up the large connecter to where the power led is and the small connecter to the hdd led.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check the pin alignment, one to ground and one to line. Also, the mobo header may not provide sufficient output to power the LEDs on the coolmod. Personally, I would hook up the power LED (blue) to the multi-connector provided. There is a connector the size of a 3 pin connector (with the middle pin missing as its unnecessary). Make sure to line up the red/black connectors correctly, as they are ground and line.

The red leds not flashing is normal. They are only supposed to light up when the HDD is active, same as the header on your case.

Thanks a lot for the help. I was confused, as I thought Blue was HDD LED and red power LED. Anyway, I fixed the blue one...kinda. Only one of the blue lights is on (on the right), and the red one is working fine.

BTW, what did u mean "multi-connector provided"? I just have it plugged in where the old power led went.

EDIT: Do you mean the connector that makes the CPU fan go directly to the PSU power connector if you want? That has three prongs.

Thanks again.

yes, the connector that plugs directly into a molex with multiple attachments for the coolmod. If you think about it, plugging the blue one makes perfect sense, as there's only two functions, on/off. Also might be why only 1 LED is lighting up, again, might not be enough power coming out of the mobo header to power 2 LEDs.

Can you plug both the red and blue leds pins into the given attached wire and not the mobo header? So that will give you red and blue lights that are on all the time?

The blue will. I didn't try the red ones, but it probably would, as long as you align the pins correctly (red = line, black = ground). I like the effect though of the coolmod flashing when plugged into my RAID card though; I also still have my case LED attached to my mobo header for my secondary drives.

What if i plug the power led to the wire and the hdd led to the mobo? Will that be too much for the mobo?

It should work. I've been running my coolmod off my 3ware RAID card though, so I dunno for sure.

I don't wanna test it if it will damage the mobo. Can this really mess up the mobo that much, or will it just burn the hdd header of the mobo?

so if you use this fan... does that mean you can't have the case light work also?

since you're removing the case light cable and replacing it...

I doubt it will. It was made to use a mobo header, and considering 3 strobe LEDs draw less than 1A (saw it on a site somewhere), I doubt 2 LEDs would overload the mobo header. If its not worth risking for you, then I dunno what to tell you.........

Not unless you make a custom header and splice the wires from the coolmod to your case headers. This may very well short the mobo header tho, so I take no responsibility for doing so :)
