It got a pretty good write up in the latest CPU mag. Wondering if anyone on here has used it.

I'm considering doing a RAID 5 setup with this card.

Also two things...

1) Bad idea to use Green drives with raid cards?

2) Do the drives all need to be the same manufacturer?

Cant help with reviews, however
1) - Green drives are a no no for Radi period
2) - I havent had issue with different manufacturer combos, as long as they are the same spec!

not a bad card from all those who I've seen use it. Recently saw 2 x Vertex 3's hit 1GB/s on it so thought it might be worth a try.

Damned if I could get the friggin' thing working on my Gigabyte board though. Kept dropping drives no matter what drives(3 different matched types tried), firmware, HDD timeout settings and any other tricks that have worked in the past. I hit it with the kitchen sink and it was still a no go.

It's a Highpoint.. so good luck with it.

PS.. I thought R0 was for the peens. LOL

no raid-5 is - it will fail . esp with that setup up there.

I don't even like raid-5 in enterprise. i'd rather rock raid-10 more spindles slightly larger price FAR higher reliability real world.

raid-0 is for those who have two devices which want to go faster. the ich of the world don't really care much about errors. just going fast.

raid-5 is a false sense of security for just about everyone.

I get ya. Was only teasing anyways.

I use R0 to backup my R0 these days and end up with a faster setup than R10 in the end. Cost's me a damned arm and a leg.. but it sure is faster overall. I don't ever have raid failures so I don't sweat it as much. I'm not running enterprise storage/server setups though either so it's easy to say that.

But yeah.. I gave up on R5 many years back myself and always preferred R10's.

yeah i use the RE4's in raid-0 - i can't backup 55 desktops+servers to this nas (d2d2d) with any other raid lol. but its going straight to the final (d) offsite so it's holding pattern is only a few hours. these new pc's with ssd are really stressing the backup nas
