my x1900xtx is a Diamond brand and it has been running fine for a little over a year now. I bought mine for the same reason, at the time it was $40 less than anything else and had a $40 rebate.

Diamond was making video cards years ago (I still remember the Diamond Monster I had - 3dfx Voodoo Graphics - paid $299 for that at the time, and now I thought $399 was a lot for the Radeon 2900!)..

Not sure if it's the same company, or another company that bought the name...but they used to be okay...

Yep. Both 3DFX and NV cards actually. Back in the day, I had a Diamond TNT2U Viper, V770 I think was the code for it. And a Riva 128 and V550 before that. Paired up with my Obsidian X-24. That was sweet. Before I had the X-24, I had two Diamond 8meg V2's in SLI. Wanted the 12megs, but they didnt come out till a month later, and I didnt want to wait. Im pretty sure I still have my reciepts for both of them. OpenGL and Glide in on PC. Pity you cant use ATi and NV in the same PC anymore. Id have one of each, just to use whichever was the best in the game I was playing at the time. Like you could back then.

Anyone who doesnt know who Diamond is, isnt old school. ;)

I had the same card. V770 TNT2 Ultra. $250 for a top of the line card, those were the days.

I missed out on the Monster and Monster II series from 3DFx.

Diamond and Guillermot were my favorite manufacturers back in the day.

Yeah, but was no doubt the best setup at the time. Best of NV, and best of 3DFX in one box? Nothing else could touch it.

btw, its Guillemont I think.

Yeah... had one of those as well. $100 if I remember right. Sucks they got bought out, because it was very, very nice. I used to sit there and listen to that bee demo where it "flew" around your head, using sound from only two speakers. Sounded so real.

btw, you have a PM from me.

Diamond always made good graphic cards, they were about the only manufacturer that made a "decent" S3 based card back in the days of the Savage 4 and Savage 2000, their later Nvidia products were pretty good as well.

Heh, found my receipts for my V2's. Back then I "worked" at EB. My buddy was the store manager, and you could be an employee if you worked four hours a month, so thats what I did. In return, I got 10% anything in the store, first pick on new games that were in short supply (such as N64 games), free magazines, and use of the check out program. You could check out two games at a time, for three days at a time. So like free game rentals. Was pretty sweet deal, and I made a few bucks doing it. Best four hours I ever worked. :)

Receipts, over 200 of them.
My first Voodoo2 (and Metal Gear Solid)
My second Voodoo2 (and returning Tomb Raider 2 for the PS and NFL QB Club for the N64)

At the time, I had a PS1, N64 (imported from Japan cause it came out a year earlier over there) and a Saturn. All three main systems, and most every game. Also had a Virtual Boy, still have one new in box. I even had a $700 3DO, still have that too. Along with the fastest available PC at the time. What can I say, I like games? :shug: My little girl is a gamer, and my boy tries to be already. Too bad I own them in Mario Kart. :D

So yeah, Diamonds been around awhile...

I still have an old Monster 3D II (Voodoo 2) in my retro game computer and a Viper V550 (TNT) somewhere in the basement. I even have the boxes.

I don't think the current Diamond has much to do with the old company though.

Diamond is a Best Data label; Best Data puts out all their graphical products under the Diamond name. I believe they manufacture their stuff the same as anyone else (buy the processor and reference equipment from ATI, put it together in China, etc).
