Does anyone have experience in Alaska?

I'm PCSing to Ft. Wainwright, Fairbanks, Alaska on July 30th. Does anyone know how it's like there? I'm a warm weather kind of guy, in Texas right now and originally from Virginia so I'm sort of lost here.

I think I'm joining the 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry. Is anyone familiar with that unit also (or any other unit)? Basically, how is day to day like there if you're assigned to a unit there? Will there be outdoors PT every morning even when it's -50? Am I basically going to be either miserably cold there or miserably hot in Afghanistan for the next 2-3 years? I'm a 68W if it makes a difference.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah I understand the irony of going to Alaska to join the "Tropic Lightning" Division.

I did google the temps, but things like -20 or -50 mean nothing to me. I'm not sure wtf -50 degrees is like.

You die in -50. You won't be spending much more than a few minutes outside even in full weather gear.
