Does anyone have any trouble installing the stock LGA775 cooler?

So I bought a Core 2 Due E6300, and tried installing the stock hsf. Wow! What a bitch!

The four connectors were squeaky and felt like they were on the verge of breaking. They required enormous effort and a great deal of "giggling" to pop them into the board--and when I did so, the board buckled under the pressure so far that it was touching the bottom of the case! It was so bad I'm afraid I may have damaged it--though after 24 hours I have had no problems.

Is it usually like this? I installed another stock cooler, and it was slightly easier, but not by much.

Am I doing something wrong?

Just curious.

You should install the cpu and hsf before you move the motherboard into the case.

The Intel HSF can be a little tricky, sometimes. I usually get one leg in, then do the one in the opposite corner next.

Like bamacre said you must push the legs in proper order, check the installation manual. Also note the orientation of the tabs, you can change them around with a flathead screwdriver. Make sure it matches what is on the installation manual.

I also had my troubles with the damn Intel stock cooler at first. And it still flexed my board a little bit, which worried me. I ditched it and got a Zalman cooler with a proper backplate.
