i need a beater to take to school, work and back home. I am having horrid luck finding suitible vehicles though. My price range is ~$1500, i was hoping to find a ranger or S10/S15 for the cheaper insurance(and ability to haul stuff) but i had no luck. So i went on to my second choice of a fullsize sedan. I test drove an 88 caprice today, which would have been fine except the seat was stuck in the reclined position, and it needs new valve seals. i'm hoping to find the time to check out a 91 crown vic sometime this weekend. I've been checking the local autotrader, classifieds and the local auction. Is there any place i'm missing? Does anyone know if that "guaranteed to pass emissions" gunk that you can buy for $20 works? the caprice doesn't burn much oil, but enough that i could smell it :(

get a late or mid eighties rx-7 or toyota camry's. they are easy to come buy and run forever.

You've got it covered, but:

Try driving around town and check out the places (Shopping centers, abandoned lots) where people leave their cars for sale. Usually more on the weekend than during the week, but varies by town.

Billboards on campus sometimes advertise cars, and school paper.

RX7's aren't cheap on insurance or repairs, and i'm staying away from 4 cylinders simply because i have a very heavy foot and 4 cylinders generally dislike being pushed. i'm hoping i can find some old man who is selling a grand marquis or crown vic for half of what it's worth :D won't happen but i can dream

There are 4 rx7's for sale for less than $700 each in my area, plus there are tons at junk yards. as long as you have a good apex seal, that engine runs forever...

insurance is not that bad on them at all, i dont know who quoted you...
