I want to start training my dog to sit and roll over and lay, but I'm not sure where to start. Everytime I say sit she lays down, everytime I say anything she lays down... like she thinks she's in trouble. Does anyone have any good dog training tips or like a website with tips so I can start out?

if your dog does the same thing no matter what you say, it is responding to other cues which you have rewarded.

example: I had a dog that we taught to sit, lay down and roll over. If we had a really nice treat for her that she could smell, she would combine all three tricks into one acrobatic maneuver and expect her treat. We had taught her that the three always went together...

Raise her up and have her sit and then say sit repeatedly and then a treat and pet her. All I can say, is don't skimp out on it because as they say, you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

My Golden Retriever was taught some... he will sit 90% of the time, he will go down 50%, and he will stay only about 25% of the time. I trained it for a while and then got lazy. :p My other dog wasn't trained at all and now it keeps jumping and licking and doesn't know anything.

It's a great start and the key is keeping it up after. Dogs and more importantly poeple tend to forget. It's irresponsible IMO to own a pet without training it if your going to be around other animals or poeple.

Yeah she knows stay pretty well. I can sit her on a mat and say stay then walk away... I'll come back a while later and she's still sitting there. But I can't get her to sit or lay down. . She always lays down.. after trying what you guys said I can tell shes kinda gettin better but needs alot of work

Do it on a collar and leash. When she lays down you jerk her back up. Most training should be done when the dog is on a leash. Its not to hard to teach them the basics well. My mom and I both have Rotties and have won alot of trophies from obedience classes. We also put mine into flyball and agility training. We had a friend with a young rottie pup that she would tell it "go commando" and the thing would crawl on its belly :Q. I imagine I could teach a dog to do that but I was surprised how young the dog was that learned it.
