Does anyone have a site with good benchmarks, G4 vs P3/K7?

Im having this little discussion at work with a dude who claims G4's are just as fast as P3/K7's.
Of course we've all heard this before, and Im sorry to bring it up again, but I want some benchmarks, dont know ehere to find them though, cept for Spec benchmarks.

Im not looking for any particular kind, Quake3, Office type stuff, compilations of programs, etc, any kind.

Try the hardocp forum. There's a "to mac or not to mac" section that had a discussion on this topic.

There was some mac site like xlr8yourmac or something like that that benched Q3 on a G4 500 Cube with a Radeon...The framerates were very bad.

The problem is:

All G4 sites will not equally compare it to a P3/Tbird because they are afraid the truth will come out.

Anyone that owns a good PC is not stupid enough to buy a G4.

So we need someone who has access to both and can equally compare them - Which I have yet to see I personally think that pc users would be better to do this sort of test than a mac user because I have seen some crazy ass totally rediculous benchmarks. Like a test I read about a g4 with a V5 5500 that was being compared to a pc with some crappy 8mb video card with the macheads claiming that the mac could play games just as good as a pc.

From what I have seen and heard though - a 1ghz tbird/P3 will beat a mac g4 handily in everything except things heavily optimized for the g4 like photoshop or rc5.

Comparisons like that are heavily flawed, depending on who you want to look better. A different compiler and different amount of program optimisation is really going to make a big difference.

If I wanted to, I could compile with maximum optiimisation for the P3 and use some crap compiler with no optimisation for the G4 and have the P3 look like it's 5 times faster, or I could do it the other way around. Comparisons like that are useless.

For certain things that make use of the AltiVec engine on the G4, programs will really scream on the G4....but I think in common day to day tasks, the P3/Athlon would win. I think the P3/Athlon would win on price/performance ratio though.

hey, I know a good way to bench PC vs Mac, at least I think I do. DVD to DIVX, thats CPU heavy.
