Roomba floor monkey.
Scooba floor mopper.

I've been watching these things for a couple years.
We have almost all hardwood floors downstairs now so I'm thinking it might be cool.
With two dogs in the house we have to sweep once or twice a day.
I'm thinking it'd probably do a nice job and save the wife and I some time to have sex and neat stuff like that.

worthless... Roomba< *

these things don't work as good as a dust buster... you'd be better off with a swiffer...

I have one, works fine. Doesn't seem to be quite as powerful as a full on vacuum, but unless you have major dirt it will work fine.

There is a competing model, can't remember the name, but the first time it goes around your house it makes a whole map of your house in its brain. The process takes several hours. It then is able to, based on your scheduling, do your whole house on its own. It goes back to its base to recharge and dump its dust holder when it needs to and can always find its base because it has a map and becuase it has some sensor shiv in it too.

Pretty cool. I want one of those. Not a roomba that u need virtual walls and everything in.

We've got one. Nice to have to leave vacuming while you run out of the house or are working on something else. My only complaint is that it needs cleaning (brushes, bin, etc) after every run if you want to keep it running well.

I have a roomba and it functions well on hardwood floors.
My only complaint is that the battery does not last long and is expensive to replace.

There is a forum with Roomba afficionados. These guys have actually modded their Roomba's to give them additional functions.

Yeah. It can go from carpet to hardwood and back again without a problem.

Eh, I think you just described the new versions of Roomba. Roomba

It returns to its home base to charge when it is done cleaning, or when it is low on battery.

You don't need virtual walls to run the Roomba, the virtual walls just let you pin it in one room, without having to close a door or something. For example, my living room goes from carpet to tile when you enter the dining room. There is no doorway between the two rooms. If I wanted to keep the Roomba in the living room, so it doesn't bump into me while I'm eating, I just set up the virtual wall between the two rooms, and Roomba will stay in the living room when I put it in there.

Check out Roomba Chat

Looks as though the site is being redone.
There are people connecting them to their PC's, modding them for deep pile carpet, taking pictures, reprogramming the cleaing algorithms, etc.

We had a roomba but returned it. Found it kept bumping into and damaging furnature. Now have a trillobite 2.0, more expensive but way better, battery lasts much longer as well. Trust me go for the trilobite!
