that seems kind of silly.

DivX is mpeg4.... converting back to a lower version seems a bit counterproductive imo.

Well not if you want to play them on stand alone dvd players. Is there anyone know programs that convert divx to playable vcd mpg?

Just about any MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 encoder should be able to do what you want. I use TMPGEnc. Just run TMPGEnc, and open the Divx *.AVI as your source file and specify a filename for the output MPEG file, and hit the Encode button...

Thx for the tip.

Ok.. if I remember this correctly mpg2 is what the dvd standard use right? If I want to burn out a divx with mpg2 I should be able to burn this out as svcd or what? With this program is it possible to splitt the file so it is possible to burn it out with a normal burner?

K I know I should read he he. but I'm lazy today!

Yes, TMPGenc comes with split/join tools. I've only used them with MPEG-1 (VideoCD), so I can't comment on how well they work with MPEG-2.

Also, the newer versions of TMPGenc (12c and 12d) only allow usage of the MPEG-2 encoder for 30 days, after which you have to pay for the program. Something about the licensing fees from the owner of the MPEG-2 patent.

The older TMPGenc 12a will encode in MPEG-2 for as long as you wish, although I was never able to achieve good quality without deinterlacing the video. I guess that wouldn't concern you, though, since Divx is already deinterlaced. 12a should still be available for download here. You'll have to download the Japanese version, and then apply the English patch.
