So, it appears www.testmy.net gives better real world results and that Comcast might be playing tricks with the speakeasy site?

This is untrue. It would be difficult and impractical for an ISP to do this. Most likely, you have cached bits of the performance test on your computer. Clear your temporary internet files before running the test a second time.

Wrong again. Comcast and many other cable companies will burst your connection for the first few seconds of large transfers to be MUCH faster then your plans posted speed.

6MB here, time warner cable. I can get almost 800KB/s on the best connections, but that's not typical.

Of course they do. Due to the nature of normal internet traffic being bursty this gives better performance for the average user.
