Does anyone find it funny when a "vegetarian" eats fish.

They say fish and shellfish aren't meat. When we all know that fish is meat, and so is shellfish. I hear some "vegetarians" even eat fowl, claiming that bird isn't meat either. Doesn't anyone else find this strange. So basically meat is just what they claim it to be.

i have a few friends who claim they are veggies but they still eat meat. i said to a friend of mine, "you are not even a veggie because you eat chicken!" "semi-veggie," she fired back.

yeah right...

Maybe they just don't like red meat?

Your not saying your only aloud to eat fish if you have the occasional steak are you? 😕

I can't STAND people who eat what they choose to eat, then go and reject the labels which I feel I must place on them.

No, he's saying don't try and be pretentious by classifying yourself as "veggie" when you're clearly not, and in a manner that's clear to even a 10 year old that you're not.

Saying you dont eat red meat is one thing, but claiming to be a vegarian while you are scarfing down that chicken and salmon is another.

precisely. Some of those people think 'meat' is only red meat. I'd love to break it to one of them that meat is the fleshy good stuff from any creature.

In what universe is it 'pretentious' to call yourself a veggie?

I'm not sure what reaction you'd be fishing for but I'd guess it would be 'err OK dude' a funny look and silence till you went away.

Most people call themselves smart, but usually aren't. Much better topic IMO.

People can call themselves whatever they want. Why do you care?

How are you not understanding this? Going out of your way to say you're a vegetarian, as if its some sort of a distinction that makes you a better person is pretty pretentious in and of itself. Not actually living that way after claiming you do is even moreso.

OP, is your friend Catholic?

i have friends that are the same way. . . .it's constantly evolving- one day they eat fish; the next day they don't. one day, they eat eggs & dairy; the next, they don't etc. etc.

I'm more pissed at the retards currently running our government who call themselves the party of small government and fiscal responsiblity while they spend like crazy and run up huge defecits, but, yeah, those darn semi-vegetarians, they're what's wrong and pretentious in this country!

😕 I know veggies, vegans, people who eat only white meat and they all do it because its their choice what they eat not to impress other people.

WTF? Thanks for adding completely unnecessary political BS.

But do they all go around telling people about it? It's not the issue of them being vegetarian, it is them proclaiming it that is being pretentious. I just can't see how you're not understanding this.

First of all, it ain't BS if it's true. Secondly, it's far more necessary than worrying about the stated food choices of others. And finally, I'm omnivorous, and I'm beginning to develop a tasted for flamed platypus. Put THAT on your plate and fork it! 😉

A classmate of mine lives up the street and I she mentioned that she was a vegetarian. It came out that she just doesn't eat red meat. That was a wtf moment for me. I might have offended her a little when I said "I just like my steak and beef too much." Well, whatever. She's a skinny bulimic bitch anyway. Wow, I didn't even intend that to be a rant.

I would say this one, at least within a certain demographic. How many teenagers, usually girls go through, or try to go through, such a phase? People want to be "hip" and "cool" and one group that they try and fit into is the veggie crowd. They want to belong and thus adopt a label (not necessarily the attitude behind it) to allow them to fit in. Since a majority of people in the west willingly eat meat when they don't technically have to, vegetarians can be seen as exclusionary of that majority, a more elite group if you will, and I've often seen are possessive of a "we're-better-than-you-because-we-don't-hurt-the-cute-animals" attitude. Really, it's the last part that lends it a distinct air of pretension in the eyes of most people.

It's like you're rallying on behalf of PETA while wearing a leather jacket. 30 seconds of actual thought would tell you how wrong that is.

If you're actually truthful about why you're doing it, know what you're doing, and follow guidelines inherent in such a lifestyle choice, by all means call yourself that. You don't eat the flesh of any living creature, wonderful, you're veggie. You don't consume any animal product and eat only things directly derived from plants, wonderful, you're a vegan. Anything less than those two, you're a person who doesn't eat certain kinds of meat. Which is still fine, but just be honest about it.

Would it be wrong to call myself an electrician when the best I can do is wire an outlet box? I think it would. That's what the OP is getting at.

Why does this bother you so much?

Your a meat eater right?

So if you came round to my place and I served you tripe and monkey brains you'd be ok? Cos I hate people who say they are meat eaters but then only eat certain meat.

A pretty good derail. Change the topic and make it political, and then take an indirect shot at the opp to make him appear petty and shallow for being concerned about such a minor issue.

I'm going to guess you fall into the "semi veggie" category and don't like your beliefs scrutinized? Just a hunch, I could be wrong.
