You know i've been posting on bb forums for years now. Over the past couple of years i've accumulated many thousands of posts on places like hardwarecentral, offtopicentral & RagingBull, places where even some single threads surpass a million posts. When i started posting i was all fired up and let myself get sucked into incredibly idiotic debates because some individual would jump in head first with insults and curses. Since that time it has worn on me. I simply loath this type of discussion nowadays and one of the reasons i registered at Anandtech was because i thought it would be a decent place for some intelligent discussion on comptech and perhaps some OT. Come to find out it's little different than any other bb i've found to date. Ok, bad judgement on my part. Doesn't anyone ever get tired of people going out of their way to hurl snyde comments and insults? It's so unlifelike. Sure people are quite often rude in reality but they restrain themselves lest they open their mouths to someone who isn't going to take to insults kindly. I really think this type of behavior is a plague on message boards worldwide. I know it keeps me from enjoying them as thoroughly as i would like too.
 
Thats the beauty of the internet... it lets the little geeky ones hide behind their keyboards so the rest of us dont beat the sh!t out of them for being idiots

Most people that crap are just e-asses. Others of us, myself included, are just having bad days and it's so much easier to dump your negativity on a forum under the mask of psued-anonymity without any real repercussions than it is to do in real life.

In all seriousness though, I think that the off topic forums here are about the most docile forums I've seen in "large" 'net forum. Sure there's some smaller, tighter knit fourms that are very cordial, but they aren't over 100,000+ member forums.

This place is pretty tame in comparison to a lot of the places out there. Thankfully we've corralled a lot of the flame fests to P&amp;N.

True - i've seen much worse. Abuse is pretty much unavoidable out on the net, but here at AT for the most part it's not that bad.

[suckup] A small part of that has to owe to the moderators for doing a good job :thumbsup: [/suckup] but also in general ppl interested in hardware/software (which is the common thing uniting all ppl posting here, i think 😕 ) are pretty intelligent on the whole. Us intelligent ppl don't easily stoop to name calling to make our points 🙂

In comparison, and in no way am i implying that (all) bodybuilders are dumb, (moreso juiced up to the eye balls 😀 j/k) but on bodybuilding forums the amount of crap that is hurled about is laughable. Ppl resort to name calling and piss taking almost straight away when anyone has an opinion challenged, or just to belittle someone else in an attempt to feel better about themselves.

You know, This is a common thing. ATOT used to be alot more fun and a lot more lively, I'm here and gone back and forth. I don't post much any more because of the number of people who are not only negetive, but immature.

Example

YAGT YACT etc.

When it was mostly mid-20's+ employees bored off their butts, and not so many 12+ year olds, asking for help with their english homework, and trying to get someone to cheat for them.

it was a lot more enjoyable, at one point in time. there are still threads floating around I see on occasion that talk about "The old times" the way ATOT Used to be.

There are still moments that makes me laugh, but they are far and few between.
 
agreed.

for some reason people just sh!t on each other around here. nothing new or thoughtfull, just crap thats an insult.
