Does anyone else wish they hadn't split this forum into "OT" and "Politics and News?"

all i remember people got tired of the Iraq War threads so a seprate forum was created. I think after Iraq was over it should have just been deleted...

I still see some News/Politic threads in OT...

I vote to keep them separated but I do feel that something has been lost. Perhaps the forum has gotten to large for both to coexist or the clientele of this forum has changed from the older days when they could both be here. Perhaps it is just me that has changed and I don't have the patience to wade through pages of threads that have no interest for me to find the few that do.

I do miss some of the viewpoints I see in OT and have tried to read some of the threads here but most seem like page after page of one liner nef posts and in the end it just doesn't seem worth it. I used to like to offer my viewpoint or help when I could but don't have that chance much any more.

All in all though, since OT isn't going back to the way it was, I prefer the split.

Actually, why is there even a Politics and News discussion? This is, as the banner says or claims, "AnandTech -computer hardware discussion forums". Off Topic is okay because it's just one discussion but WhyTF is there a political section? I think it's because every geek here thinks they're better than the president and feel obligated to rip on him because their egotism and success in technology makes them believe they can run the world. I am so tired of hearing anti-Bush crap. If there is one thing I am positive in its our government as stupid as it sounds. I think things could be a helluva lot worst and I'm grateful for what I have. I personally like Bush because he's a Christian and with that set of beliefs I'm sure he's trying his hardest to do the right thing and please as many people as he can.

ATOT or General non-hardware(what was the orginal name of this forum?) was created to get religious and some political discussions out of the General Hardware forum. There were some wonderful discussions back than, truely classics.

Much to many people's dismay, this forum was not created for nefing, upping post counts. stupid one liner responses and some of the other things it is now being used for.

But hey, it's Off Topic so it's all good, right?

Actually;

From the AnandTech Forums descriptions:

A public meeting place, a Pub, if you will... A place for computer junkies to boldly post Off Topic... Things you might want to tell everyone... Or things you wouldn't say to anyone else.

So?

How does that justifies the nefing that goes on?

Actually, I don't care that much any more. I argued this a long time ago and lost. The nefs have won. So be it.
