Does anyone else use bsdwebhosting.net???

They've been down now for about 24 hours... anyone know if they're coming back? Whois.net has the contact for them located in PA, do you think it has to do with the blackout?

How old is the site? I don't deal with new webhosting providors, it's WAY too easy to setup a fly-by-night operation then dissappear with the cash.

Could also be a combination of the blackout + DNS server issues.

I had two sites on them... they went out during the blackout and never came back. I transfered my sites off to another service.

MrBond, it's not fly by night, they've been around for years.

EDIT: Just found this on webhostingtalk.com :

There was a system failure on that machine. You may (or may not) know,
that system isn't really our system - a client of ours went out of
business and left it. Essentially, you are the client of a client, if
you see what I mean.

Since it's not a machine we set up, there is no back-up or other
fail-safes that are in place on our normal systems. Normally, if there
were a system problem, we'd just bring up the backups on a spare system,
and be back up. We are working on restoring the machine, but it will
most likely take a couple of days and even if we get the machine back
up, everyone who wants to continue hosting there will have to re-create
their account and re-upload their files. You may want to go ahead and
find a new host. If you decide to move your hosting, you can get a
refund for the unused portion of your account. Please send a payment
request to bsdwebhosting@phenominet.com - make sure you include the
email address you used.

Not that we want to try to talk you into staying - I certainly wouldn't
stay with a host that told me they were going to be down for 2 days,
then made me re-create my account, but now that this machine has failed,
we plan to set it up the way we would have if it had been ours in the
first place. We are adding a back-up system to it so this type of thing
doesn't happen again. Also, we are working on making sure no one's
email is lost during this process (which is why we haven't redirected
www.bsdwebhosting.net somewhere else and explained all this).

Please let us know what domains you use and what email addresses you
have so we can try to make sure your email isn't lost, whether you
decide to stay or go. If there is anything we can do to make things
easier for you, please let us know. (Even though you aren't really our
client, we aren't interested in screwing anyone over and will be happy
to help any way we can). Thanks.

I got an email from them today with my account being re-established. They say they'll be active again today or tomorrow.

Rossman, they don't charge by the month, they charge by the amount of the server you use. I have 3 sites hosted with them... 2 for over a year now and one for about 6 months... and they've charged me a total of 42 cents.

I'd leave them if I could find someone else as reliable for as cheap... they've only been down this once, and hopefully they won't go down like this again... if they do, then I'll be moving.

Oh yeah, and they gave me my 42 cents back 🙂

Sounds good, I've seen the script they use "pay as you go web hosting" sounds like an interesting idea.

and no you can't find a better deal than that.

Glad that your account has been re-activated and you got your 42 cents back 🙂
