you're describing a persons skin tone by two geographical regions.

anyways, what are people with black skin called in other countries? I think calling someone an "african-american in Europe would be pretty dumb.

BTW my step-mother is black. I am not racist in any way.....except for hating the damn filthy irish ;)

I remember seeing a concert with DC Talk making a statement that, "black, white, red, yellow, brown, we are all colored people"

Yes, I've been lectured by African-Americans for calling them that.

Political Correctness as given to us by Liberal Leftists is complete crap!

Yea, I hate that African-American BS. Next time someone calls me white, I'm gonna act all offended and insist they call me a "European-American".

It sounds like an American mated with a Afircan and had a African-American child. But PC'ness is just for tree huggers anyway.

political correctness and oversensitivity to words.

i'm never offended when someone calls me a Korean American and i wouldn't get up in arms if someone called my kids "korean americans" either.

if you ask me, it's an apt description of what my kids and i are. We are american by politics but korean by birth.

Just as bad as Africanadian. I'e heard more Canadians bitch about that lately than I've ever heard Americans talk about African-American.

i was just responding to the OP. he says " I think calling someone an "african-american in Europe would be pretty dumb." and i'm just agreeing, it would seem that the term african american could only be applied to someone that was actually an american.

Africanadian
Never heard that, thank God.

The term is gayer than a bat up my ass and I refuse to use it. Black and White are the terms I used. If somebody gets on my case for it I can just tell them that I want to be called a European Canadian

No. Which is why Black and White should still be the terms.

That brings up another question. What do Asian prefer? Yellow? Asian? Asian-American ;)?

Yes it's stupid.

I like to call them "people". Or if you want a nationality, then just "American".

what if someone was black, born in England, and later moved to Toronto where he lived for 5 years. Then, he decided to move to Buffalo, NY. What would we call him then????
European Africanadian American?
Euroafricanadian American?

They aren't a "different race", they simply have darker skin and maybe nappier hair. Anything we lable people like that with will be overused by people in general, and that's when it becomes offensive imho. Lets not be like "ebonics" and keep changing our minds of the word we want to lable them with. People may be darker or have more color, but they ARE the same race!

<----Ashamed of being "human".
