Marilyn damn sure wasn't ugly but she was more "sexy" than classically "pretty". I wouldn't put her in the top 500 best looking actresses, but she ranks near the top in raw sex appeal. I'd put Scarlet Johannson, Angelina Jolie, Ellen Barkin and a few others in the same category, the overall package is much better than the sum of the parts.

They could, just take them to Glamour Shots, a store in a lot of malls where they take a picture of you and Photoshop the fuck out of it. The one you posted might be hard to duplicate as whoever took it has uber top level Photoshoppers working for them. You'll be shocked at what lighting, makeup and Photoshop can do. It's not hard for them to turn a 5-6 female into a solid 8/9.

That picture you posted is so far away from how she really looks it might as well be a CGI rendering

The thing about Monroe was that she was one of the best photography models ever. She's not a great movie star and she wasn't beautiful like others. But in front of a camera she was supernatural. Her photos are the key to her legacy

To be fair, everyone can have a very bad photo taken. Bad lighting/reflections, ugly facial reaction frozen in image, etc etc. It's more challenging to produce a glamour photo than it is a bad photo of even the most attractive people.

Those who are "photogenic" simply have a knack for good-looking emotive facial muscle displays.

Here's a good series of photos of what appears to be her when sleep-starved or hungover post-yoga. I wouldn't turn that down, and would gladly wake up next to that after a hard night out, because I'm sure after a hard night out I'll look just as bad until rejuvenated.

There's looking bad, then there's looking old, and there are some that are a combination of both. NO 29 year old should look that old, I don't care how rough of a night they had. And that pic isn't after a hard night, it's her after a Yoga class, so that's probably her day to day no make up look. If that's her without makeup and lighting at 29 I don't want to see her at 39. I had to Google her age, I still don't believe she's only 29, she could pass for 40 there easy.

Those are very heavy bags under her eyes, that's unlikely a day to day occurrence, it would be seen more often. Look at the photos in the links below, you don't see such heavy bags. The post-yoga glow is actually enhancing her look there, post-exercise adds a bit of glow that, even when you look exhausted, there's still a radiance. It doesn't make you look like a star when you started the day looking like shit, but it definitely helped in her case.

I'm not saying she's a knockout 11/10 type without makeup, but she isn't as bad as you are saying, or as bad as that other photo.
