Does anyone else see a double standard?

A non-English European is born into learning a non-English language. The superior English speaking peoples laugh and ridicule them until they learn to speak the correct language. Once they do, they are applauded for having the willpower and intelligence to overcome their unfortunate backgrounds, and end up all the more intellectually strengthened. English professors use the skills of the second-languaged to belittle the illiterate primary speaker. Beautiful American women fawn over their accented English.

An American is born into learning imperial units. The superior metric using peoples laugh and ridicule them until they learn to use the correct unit system. Once they do, Europeans still continue to laugh at them and they are picked on for the rest of their life for something that is out of their control. Science professors make no acknowledgement of their accomplishments. Beautiful European women don't care.

When will people of both sides learn to come together and realize that everyone grows up with hardships and obstacles to overcome, and to accept each other once they do? I bet that if Europeans were just a little less arrogant and accepting of international social practices, the resentment that Americans share towards Europeans would not exist.

Are you saying a counties national language is an analoge for their national measurement units?

Changing to metric is a whole lot easier than changing the nations language.

Easy for an Australian to say; you were born into a privileged society that contained the best of both. No wonder you and your brethren (Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand) are falling so rapidly. You belong to a spoiled people.

americans are terrible at trying their hand on other languages. They'll try to speak english instead of attempting to learn the foreign language. Seems to be a way of life.

But we didnt always. We were still using imperial until 1966.

One day we had Pounds, shilings and pence and the next it was dollars and cents.

Probably wasnt fun but we just did it.

Amercia should have changed by now. Just wear the pain.

And how are we 'falling'?

That's because there is no motivation to learn something that will provided no benefits. I'd like to see you (assuming you're not an American) use imperial units so easily.

In 1966 you guys didn't have ridiculous gun regulation either. Thanks for further proving my point. Hardship and struggle are a necessity to success. Those that were never forced to exercise their minds to survive succumb to mental atrophy.

eye yam 'merican, d00d. I do use metric units but only in the lab. Out of there I have no reason to use metric units unless doing random theoretical physics online.

No need to be arrogant, then. This is like the Korean kid that posts on internet forums about how his dad yells at him and beats him for B+'s, and then five years later complains about how kids have it too easy and need to be beaten more often.

cliffs:
-americans berate immigrants for poor english. immigrant gets super smart and gets phd, gets the sexy ladies schneider guy dreams about.
-europeans laff at yank not using metric units. after mastering metric units, yankee still can't get european tail.

-ramble on equality for europeans to accept us, if they did, this euro vs american clash would cease to exist.

no arrogance here, I am simply between the middle of two greatnesses. Sometimes I don't know which to pick but I always lean towards the american side.

America is the one with ridiculous gun regulation. Most western counties have simular laws to ours. You guys are the odd ones out.

And laws or not we've never been a 'gun owning' people. Even before the Port Arthur massacre our ownership rate was very low.

No standard and learn to write coherently while, preferably, not drunk.

I see nothing incoherent in my post. If you are French or a similarly unfortunate being with sub-optimal English comprehension, I apologize if I have rekindled an inner rage at the sick society you were born into, but realize that I say what I say with no other purpose but to bring us together. Once we overcome our weaknesses we will triumph as one.

Yeah I got that, well it took a while to sort it out in the mess of a post that is the OP. My question still stands, is he drunk? It doesn't seem like a very coherent argument and the analogy he is using is strange.

no worries my hamburger friend, I think there is justice and hope for the american brethren. I have witnessed the situation before where the americans spoke in fragmented english-accentuated forms of other languages, and the natively speaking women think it is cute. Some end up dating them on these premises alone. Just observe and document the epitome of all the asian girl-white guy relationships.

Not entirely. It is a lot harder to mess up a decimal placeS in inches.
I would rather have a dozen eggs than ten.
and waist and shoe sizes get entirely too large,
wEIGHT in kilograms has an appeal.
Buying a 1/2 lb of lunch meat vs what 190 grams? 210?
Ten slice pizza? Does pi come out any more even
I mean when you order a 1/4 pounder would it sound the same in grams?
And how could you order a 2 by 4 by 8 in centimeters and meters?
Change the minutes in an hour.?

NO NO. If you insist on being rational both systems should switch to base eight. Much more reasonable. Scientific. Eight fingers after all.

Point too Americans are so busy trying to teach immagrants English Why stop away from home? And how would knowing the wrong language help in most places. NO no. English is the latin of our age.
