Does anyone else refuse to move over for morons that don't know how to merge?

Can't stand morons that come down the exit ramp expecting you to move over and not merging. I hold fast - I've been nearly hit several times - but I refuse to freaking back down. Maybe these stupid ppl need a freaking wake up call. . .

Edit:
I posted above when I was really mad at a particular incident. I did restate my position below but some people do not read through the entire thread (not that I blame them).

I 'will' grudgingly move when someone starts to move into my lane right on top of me. I won't cause an accident.

I just wish I could take these people aside and spend a day with them and teach them how to merge.

I really am a nice person, just tired of nearly being hit all the time.

What happened the day I posted this, was an suv came down a long ramp, they were ahead of me in the merge lane. They could have merged no problem. Instead they hit thier brakes (putting them beside me) and then just started moving over. This has happened to me dozens of times, and I'm just tired of it. When it has happened to me there is no 'short on ramp' or anything, just people that simply don't have a clue. I always let people in at construction zones, short ramps, and 18 wheelers.

A wake up call to do what, stop driving on the xway? Usually you can guage their entrance and either speed up or slow down to accomodate, you shouldn't have to move over to the next lane.

Now, if you want to talk about not yielding when someone has had 5 miles to merge over when a lane is coming to an end but waits until the very last moment, I'm all for it.

I hate to say this, but I routinely drive an on-ramp that is literally 50 feet long. I'm sorry, but sometimes there are people that do not know how to be courteous and aknoweldge the fact and slow down or speed up if necessary. And if you hae someone in front of you driving slow..well then it's plain dangerous for people to not adjust their speed to the people merging onto the freeway.

But I do agree there are some people who do not know how to merge.

That sucks too. . .

No - I am talking about the people that come down an exit ramp. They have plenty of room to speed up and get ahead of me, or slow down and get behind me. It is THIER job by law and common sense to MERGE onto the freeway, not force traffic over.

I don't care too much about them trying to enter the highway and all, but I can not stand it when people have the 'left lane closed' message for the past ten miles and stil ignore it. I hate the folks that will drive down the shoulder of the highway then try to cut in ahead of people.
I will do my best to keep those guys behind me, I have even move over a bit to the shoulder so they couldn't drive past.

You drive with your cruise control on in the right hand lane?

I'm more upset by the dumbasses in front of me who stop and wait for someone to let them in at the top of a merge lane onto the interstate. If I were in a beater I would be so tempted to help them merge

Yeah, that's the scenario where (imo) the rude people who just want to get ahead deserve to be cut off like that.

Well, I agree it's at least part of their job too. But I think it's easier to judge how much to speed up/slow down when you're already at cruising speed on the freeway, as opposed to just trying to get up to reasonable speed as you are entering the traffic flow.

yup - more of you guys should try being courteous drivers.

i agree, but there are certain ramps around here that can be a PITA to merge...very sharp turn, merge lane is REALLY short and doubles as the turn lane for the next exit
combine that with 3 lanes of fast moving traffic and a car that's trying to exit and merging is murder

btw, when lanes are closed up ahead and people pass the line of traffic to merge at the end.......i'm a real prick and I drive in the middle
I had a guy get out of his car and walk up to my car once
fortunately traffic started moving and i drove away leaving this retard standind in the middle of the road with his truck parked in the right lane

Ok in Arkansas, we have plenty of space, and they have nice long gradual merge lanes. . .

No excuse here. . .

most merges around here have plenty of space too, but there are a few downtown where i work that are horrid
and some fvcktards STOP and wait for the traffic to go away!! which in turn totally SCREWS everyone who has to stop and wait for her (yes, HER...we all know damn well its a HER)

You make this seem like it's such a common occurance. You have idiots that don't know how to merge everyday? Enough for you to have a motto for it?

In Arkansas you say?

if it looks like a crowded merge, I'll get into the left lane if possible. otherwise, I have no problem letting cars in assuming they meet my two conditions: can't be an SUV (I hate driving behind SUV's), and they need to have their blinker on.

I hate morons who think cruise control should be used in everyday driving. If my trip is less than 20 minutes or not outside city limits, I think there's absolutely no reason to have it engaged. In your case, to take action requires you to actually move your foot to the brake or accellerator, then go through the whole process of engaging the cruise control. This takes valuable time away considering how much faster your actions could be if you weren't using the cruise control at all. Also, if you have to keep your present speed, it'd be far less dangerous for you to slide over to the left provided there's room to do so... not being accomidating is one thing but making yourself more prone to get in an accident is about as stupid as not maintaining the speeds of those around you (one of the reasons for going above the speed limit).

As for the merge, if the person who's merging is in front of your vehicle (not going fast enough) it's likely you who would be ticketed for hitting them from behind (failure to maintain safe distance).

Now, for me, I drive a stick 97 2.slow Jetta and make sure I'm merging at freeway speeds... and sometimes end up passing people to get on. Don't be afraid to give a car some gas when on the freeway people.

Also, it's called a freeway "on ramp"... nobody exits from it.

If I can't move left, I just slow down. There's no need to risk an accident, as they suck. Besides I say it's good practice to keep that right lane clear as possible to let people on the highway without gunning the engine.

Ha, you beginners. I'm from New Jersey, where the combination of stupid roads, stupid road conditions, whimsical road signs, tourists, local idiots, terrorists, football games, soccer moms, rich idiots who think the roads belong to them, rich kids with SUV's who think they'll never die, truckers on their way to somewhere else, cheap gas prices, "exit" lanes three feet long, old people who live in florida the rest of the year, people trying to follow directions on a little piece of paper that they can't quite read, ambulances that are really just a bunch of people on their way to work with sirens & flashing lights, route 4 backed up past 287 because everybody's gawking at a piece of garbage on the side of the road in Englewood, cops eating lunch in their car reading the paper on two-lane route 17 backing up traffic in both directions for miles, drivers with guns who get really really really mad when you accidentally cut them off, people in traffic jams who get out of their cars and hop across the median to get to the starbucks for some latte just before traffic picks up, people backing up on crowded freeways because they missed their exit,

I could go on.

Yeah, I hate people who can't merge :D .

I don't give a damn...I just drive...ignoring everything around me...people honking, changing lanes, driving way over the speed limit..I don't care..I just drive and get to where I'm going.

I laugh at the frustrated people on the road. It isn't worth it to me.

Why must a person who is merging from an on-ramp that ends put on their blinker, do you not expect them to get over? It's not as if they have any place else to go.

I've never really seen what you're describing... people merging INTO you when there's space in front of or behind you. But usually when I'm coming up to an onramp I'll move over if possible to make it easier for people to get onto the highway. What really annoys me is on smaller highways when people have an acceleration lane, but they stop at the beginning and wait for an opening. The exit of a mall near me is a classic example of this, people just sit there when there is an entire new lane just for them - it's not even an acceleration lane, it just keeps going.

I'll be the guy that crashes into your piece, takes you out of the car, and beats the fvck out of you for not being considerate to other drivers. How hard would it be for you to speed up or slow down so someone can merge on? You're supposed to share the road; they have no where else to go but onto the highway.

The person on the ramp is legally required to yield to people on the freeway. Persons already on the freeway have the right of way. Whether he is being "nice" or not is beside the point, he has the right of way from a legal standpoint and if someone merges and hits him it is the merging person's fault. Persons already on the freeway have no legal obligation to accomodate people who never learned how to guage speed and distance.
