Does anyone else purposely avoid buying "lowfat" and "light" stuff at the grocery store?

Sour Cream is supposed to have fat in it. Butter is made from dairy products, not vegetables, Maple Syrup should not be sugar free.

I always buy the "regular" version of everything. All that "lite" stuff tastes like crap.

In a blind taste test, I'd bet you couldn't consistently tell the difference between which one was light, and which one wasn't.

i don't have any reason to buy "light" products, and sometimes they even cost more.

I don't avoid it. I usually try it as long as it isn't really high in sodium or something like that. If it tastes good, I'll keep buying it.

Maybe with some things, but there's definitely some that are very obvious. Take milk for example: 2% milk has the consistency of water. It is not milky at all. ew.

Depends on the product, I buy butter rather than margarine because margarine taste like crap.
I will buy low-fat mayonnaise because I can't tell the difference between that and the normal stuff.

The thing is, a lot of the times the 'light' stuff is worse for you, because they fill it with artificial things to make up for the lost taste.

2%? Like water? Do you usually drink whole milk? As for margarine, I prefer it over butter because it spreads on toast easier.

Yeah, that too. I'd rather eat sugar than some cancer causing lab chemical that tastes kinda like sugar.

Yes, I drink whole milk, it's how milk was meant to be. 2% is stomachable in cereal, and 1% and fat free might as well be cloudy water.

Man, that stuff tastes like whipping cream to me after a lifetime of 2%. It's actually really good on cereal, but I drink so much milk per week I'd be fat as hell if I drank whole all the time.

You've been accustomed to watered down crap :)

I mostly only have milk w/ cereal or in baking anyway.

Man you guys have some horrible eating habits. I hope you have good genes or are young enough so you don't end up looking like Jabba the Hut.

The problem with most people who buy "light" and "lowfat" foods is that they look at it as a free ticket to eat something else extra.

"Ooooooh!! I'm eating light stuff so I can have that snickers for a snack" effectively netting them 0 (or less) calories saved.

Or the classic - I'd like a Double fatass with cheese, a megalardass sized fries, please hold the mayo, and gimme a liter of diet cola....gotta be healthy you know.

Hehe...true, but like I said, I drink a lot of milk. I don't need all the extra calories.

For the record, I'm with you as far as everything else goes. When I cook, I use real butter, real sausage, oil, everything. No sense in dicking around if you're going to take the trouble to cook something nice. Just don't have 5 helpings and go for a damn walk once in a while and the calories aren't really an issue.

I used to drink whole milk but switched to 2% a couple years ago. Now I can't stand whole milk.

Like a lot of other "low fat" foods, it's all about what you are used to.

Depends. Some things they just up the carbs to crazy levels to make up for low fat and it's really no better for you and tastes <= to the original.

Otherthings the low fat / reduced fat is so insignificant (compare to regular) it's just a gimmic to get people to buy it (who only buy low fat stuff) or to get extra shelf space at the store. Some stuff is tricky too, they lower the fat a little (so they can claim 'lite or reduced fat'), but, also the serving size is smaller so it looks like it's better for you than before. But, really it's hardly any different.

Other things it tastes like crap (like no-fat mayonaise) that I'd just assume not use it or use something else. (I just use mayonaise... gotta live a little!).

So, it just depends. But, I don't avoid it and I do compare to regular products now and then.

Ever try eating the serving size of various products... I'd starve. Well, probably not, but, man I'd sure loose weight! I keep telling myself I should try that for a while.

yea, all the light crap does taste like crap. I have high metabolism (sp?) so eating the full fat stuff does me no harm.
