Does anyone else live in a town full of slackers?

rant of the month.

I try to take care of most of the up keep on my house but sometimes the upkeep is beyond my skills or I have other things to tend to. There are plenty of people in this town that advertise that they are available for hire. Sure you can call them and they say they will help, but I have rarely been able to actually hire anybody.

Here are some examples. Our house is also for sale and someone wanted so see it. I had been real busy and couldn't get to mow the lawn. So I called to get someone out there to mow it. I called, they say they can do it the next day. Then the lawn mowing weasels never show up and don't even call.

My roof got damaged from a wind storm. Insurance hands me a check to get it repaired. I contacted a company and they say they will give me a quote. I get the quote, schedule the work, then no call and no show. I contact another carpenter. Same thing only this one never came out to get me a quote. So its been 2 months and my roof is still damaged.

I also bought one of those small pools for my daughters birthday. Its one of those 16' no build, no hassle jobs. Only my yard is not very level. So I call someone to get a price to level a spot for the pool and bring some dirt. They say sure I will be out there the next day. No call and no show. Luckily the father in law has a large tiller so I ended up digging up the yard my self and now have a intensely sore upper body.

The town I live in has a 11% unemployment rate but I figured most people around here would rather fish and drink beer than work. There is even a large manufacturing plant that makes mowers and when the work slows down for the season they usually have large scale layoffs. 6 months of work then the people get 6 months of unemployement. Some have been doing this for years.

I don't normally rant but I was just wondering if anyone else lives in a town like this?

Where is consumerhelpdesk.org when you need it?
