Yes, in two streets in particular come to mind. The weird thing is that the police don't patrol them really. And I know they're not too picky about speeding because I comfortably go 7-9 MPH above the limit with them behind me and thought nothing of it.

By the way, these two streets are not small, they are only two lanes, but it's wide with wide shoulders.

tempe, arizona is a combination of crazy migrated speeding california drivers and drivers from other states who are so terrified of us california drivers that they drive slowly.

of course, they drive slowly in the left lane, which is the #1 sure way to piss off a california driver.

unfortunatly such a place does not exist in israel. there aren't enough police to give out tickets to everyone. ppl usually go 120-130 on 90 roads. there was this one accident when this guy went 180 instead of the 90 speed limit on the arava road. he crashed into a semi-trailer. let's just say there wasn't much left of the car or occupants.

I live in Atlanta now, the problem is that the speed limits are too low, 55!? I liked it when I was living in Phoenix, the speedlimits are 65-70, 75 out in the country..and people still drive over the limit :)

I can't remember the last time I saw more than one person driving 55 on the highway in Atlanta, at least on the top end. I was there a couple weeks ago, and everyone was going about 75 on I-285. I used to drive from Georgia to Virginia (college), and there was always a noticeable increase in speed when I hit Georgia or a decrease when I left into South Carolina.

Not really. I've not seen any excessive police presence, but it's the secondary roads that baffle me. There are never police on some roads, but people are going really slow. It's gets quite annoying sometimes! :)

It depends where in Ohio you're at, as to what the typical driving pattern is. In many rural environments, folks tend to drive below the speed limit. Most of them cite fear of being ticketed as their reason.

In Columbus (at least during non-rush-hour timeframes), I usually see traffic going 5-10 MPH above the limit, at least on the major freeways. The rural routes still tend to slow people down excessively, though. Pickerington is famous for their 25 MPH limits EVERYWHERE, even in places that should be 55 or 65... it's no wonder people are afraid to drive above the limit... so they over-compensate. My entire family does that. I'm much the opposite... few people are able to keep up with me on country roads, and I'm usually among the fastest drivers there are. <shrug>

Ohio drivers are quite famous for that. I've been told it's because the Ohio HIghway Patrol is so strict. I tend to watch my speed in Ohio because of the stories I've heard and the fact that no one else is speeding either.

OSHP certainly has a reputation for ticketing. That said, if you're paying attention, and they can tell that, they generally leave you alone. I've gotten two speeding tickets... one was about 4 years ago, and another was about one year ago. Both were local municipalities that operate speed traps. I wasn't paying sufficient attention in either case, and got caught both times. I particularly hate it when you're driving down a rural route and the speed limit goes from 65 to 50 and then back to 65 within like 1000 feet.

I usually fly at around 80-85 on the freeway, though. I know that some cars have seen me, but then back off when I react. Coming up an incline on I-70 after midnight, when it was dark, there was a black OSHP vehicle with no lights on, at the top of the hill, looking out a mile or so. I was the only car on the freeway... I saw his parking lights come on about a split second before my radar detector indicated a direct hit, and I started slowing down right when I saw the parking lights come on. He could have gotten me for 20+ MPH over, but didn't. That's happened to me several times.

I've now made five significant highway trips (500+ miles) since getting here last year, and I've not noticed that Ohio police are more vigilant. In fact, on my last trip to Atlanta, Kentucky police were much more out in force than Ohio's -- I saw one or two OHSP but about 10 Kentucky troopers. Even accounting for the distances involved, it was a noticeable difference.

Of course, we have a 45 mph road right near our house, and too many pricks speed on it. We just had another dog get killed (not ours) yesterday on that road. Of course, that road IS heavily patrolled, both by military police and the local police who both have jurisdiction. It's downright idiotic to speed on there, but plenty of idiots do. I don't go a single day without seeing someone pulled over, typically by the military police.

yes, i know exactly what you're talking about...this little town i live in is populated by a lot of older people and i often get stuck behind them going 15-20mph in a 35, and 25-30 in a 45...it's ****** obnoxious

i learned to drive in dallas, and lived in austin for a while, then i come up here and everyone is pokeassing along...you know, some of us actually have things to do and aren't out for a ****** sunday drive

Yes Ohio drivers suck. Back at home in NE Ohio the drivers go sooo slow on the 2-lane roads and hardly any of the roads have useable passing areas. :( One advantage of being in Ohio is the cops have to use marked cruisers with exterior light bars for speed enforcement. So you don't have to worry about undercover Cameros or Crown Vics with interior light bars.

And yes as you've noticed Kentucky is even worse than Ohio. Also Kentucky cops use far more laser than you will find in Ohio.

I drive from Columbus to Chicago at least once or twice a year. I usually see upward of twenty OSHP patrolmen between Columbus and the Indiana line. Maybe five or six cops in Indiana, and sometimes I see a few driving around Chicago. OSHP is definitely more vigilant IMHO than either of those other two states.

Can anyone say stuff about Houston?

Here everyone goes over the limit like 75-80 mph on a 65 road in the middle of town (610 loop for example). I drove outside the city, there ****** TRUCKS are speeding on one-lane road, omg @truck going 80 behind me on 75 road...

I'm shocked that no one's mentioned Oregon yet. Passing zones mean nothing to those tools.
