Do you always find yourself walking behind someone you wish would walk faster? It drives me nuts at the store or at the mall, I always have someone in my way. :|

Whenever I walk anywhere, I take long strides very quickly. People here at work have even started standing aside to let me pass when they know I'm walking behind them. :)

I must have learned it from my father. When I was a kid he would take much longer strides than I, so I had to walk quickly to keep up.

Anyway, it's Friday and I'm just rambling. :D

same here

I remember once when I was about 4, I was walking with my dad and had to practically leap to keep up. It formed as a habit and now I walk very quickly.

you're not alone ;)

I have long strides because of my dad too. He would always walk so fast when I was young that I would have to run to keep up. Now I have long strides and find myselfs wanting to go faster that others sometimes especially here in Singapore as "locals" window shop and hardly move their feet.

Same here! I'd have to walk very fast to keep up with my dad's long strides. Seems that my brain hasn't made the connection that my legs are quite a big longer now. ;) Walking fast is natural to me, although some people get ticked off when they can't keep up.

I also prefer to walk fast, especially when I'm at work. I work in a hospital that is a quartermile long, and if you get stuck behind an older couple (which is prevailant in a hospital) you're screwed. I can make it across the hospital and up or down several floors in just a few minutes, but getting stuck behind a slow walking group will slow me down almost 5 minutes on a crowded day. Talk about agitating.

I'm from NYC. You have to walk fast here. But it does drive me crazy when you have 3 people in a row walking real slow. Or guys who won't stand on the right side of the escalator when you want to pass them.

Yeah, I walk fast too. I don't know what these people are strolling around for, I have places to go. Don't they know that? It really irritates me at the store, as I always go in knowing what I want, go right to it, grab and cash out. How much of their lives are spent loitering around checking the prices of 5 different cans of tuna? Move along, nothing to see here.

I do it, too, and yes, my dad was a tall guy, but I don't remember having trouble keeping up on walks. What I do remember is having a 1/4 mile hike between buildings in high school, and at least that far to get to the theatre shop in college, so I had to learn to cover distances at a good clip.

My dad had short legs, but in school, between class's I'd walk fast so kids wouldn't bug me, so now if I walk with friends in the mall, I end up doing laps around them.

Yep. Our ex-secretary said once, "how do you get all that speed out of those stumpy little legs?" There's one guy at work who flies at 3 strides/second - believe it - but he's consciously doing it, it's not a normal walking speed for anyone.

Most people at work know I'm "that short guy who walks fast."

I walk extremly fast around campus, its almost like I have to be a running back to maneuver through the crowds sometimes. Actually in highschool I didn't even used to swing my arms, cus I was so used to being in marching band. I didn't even realise it either until my english teacher started making fun of me in class one day haha. I thought it was funny.

I walk real fast, but I doubt it has anything to do with keeping up with my dad as a child.
I'd say it has more to do with my impatience when I want to get somewhere, because I drive fast, too, for the same reason.

I tend to walk quicly as well. Generally, because I'm late for something or in a hurry to get somewhere. Some people have that saying about stopping and smelling the roses. Well, if I walk faster, I can smell the next set of roses more quickly.
