Does anyone else have this problem with their Linksys WRT54G?

Well, the topic summary kind of says it all. Every computer that gets a signal on my WRT54G will have great signal most of the time, but pretty regularly it mysteriously drops the signal. I have downloaded the firmware for it, but that hasn't helped a bit.

I was wondering if there was something else I could do. Presently, I have been just unplugging it and plugging it back in. After I do that, it will work for a while longer until it inevitably goes out again.

What version of the router do you have? I have been recently using a V5 router and I have no problems with it or the latest firmware (1.00.6)

i had a V3 that had the same problem that I bought back in July. I returned it and the one I got in exchange is a V5. This leads me to believe that it is the way in which I have it configured.

You've had a V3 and a V5 and the same problem with both?

I think it's not a problem with the wrt54g then, the V5 is completely different in hardware and software to the V3. The 3 is better than the 5 btw, so I'd get the old one back if I were you. Try changing the channel to something well away from 6 (the default). This helps in environments with a lot of noise from other ~2Ghz devices.

After I took the V3 back and got the V5 in exchange, I read that the V5 does not accept third-party firmware and that many users are upset about it. I just want it to work, dangit! On a lighter note, it has been working flawlessly since I posted this thread (*knocks on wood*). I will change the channel from the default channel the next time it wants to hiccup. Until then, I don't want to upset it in any way since it is working so well right now.

I have v2.2 of the WRT54G router and the only time I've ever had a dropped connection in over a year was when I intentionally (or once accidentally) unplugged power to the router itself.

My friend had the same issues with his WRT54GC but I sold him my spare WRT54G ver2 and never happened again.
