Does anyone else have the cherished memories of Christmas that I do? ;)

Lets see, my mom comes in my house the other day from Christmas shopping, and let me quote her first sentence to myputer and I. "If I don't *beeping* kill somebody this *beeping* holiday season it will be a *beeping* miracle!" :Q

And then, on Christmas Eve, when the choirs are singing of the Lords birth, there will be my mom, baking a pie. And something would go wrong, either my brother and I would start fighting over something stupid, or we would break something. And it would start. "Thats it, next year I am not celebrating the holidays! Merry *beeping* Christmas to you all!" And she would then proceed to storm out of the room for a while, while we hid in fear, and my dad threatened us, because he knew she was gonna yell at him for the way his damn kids acted. :p

Then there is my aunt, who would lovingly threaten to throw hot tea in your face if you so much as looked at her wrong, and my cousin, who never fails to inform us what a bunch of dysfunctional *beeps* we are, as she sits there with her arms crossed over her six breasts. And no, that cousin is not myputer, believe it or not. ;) And my brother, who is 33 and mentally retarded. He does a rousing rendition of Batman kicking the Jokers ass in the middle of dinner, and does every role himself. Nothing like bringing your boyfriend home to meet the family, and have your older brother run up to him "Take that you evil Joker! BIFF, BAM, POW!"

Most of them have mellowed now though, and we usually have some good holidays together. And I want to say, I love them all, very very much. But I am not the only one with these kind of memories at the holidays, right? Right?

My mom sat us all down last night & asked what our favorite Christmas traditions were, & what we wanted to make a tradition.

My sister gave her some things, all the guys were like "Ummmm.... I dunno."

My brother wanted girls dressed up like elves, I guess that's pretty typical for a 14 year old.

Well..for starters, I was all of 3 mind you, one of two things happened. Either myself or the cat (an old tom named Oliver) knocked over the tree. My parents heard a crash and came running into the room to find my diapered behind sticking out from under the nearerst chair.

As for all the other Christmases, I grew up with two younger brothers, what do you think, calm or chaos? ;)

Every Christmas, my family has a tradtion. My mom wakes up at 6:30 AM and bakes. The previous night, dad makes sure all the fire extinguishers are reloaded. Now, we dont get presents because my parents are cheap bastards, so I debate the point of waking up. Now, circa 7 to 7:30, usually the smoke alarms start going off cause mom put something in the oven at 400 and went to take a shower. At this point, I usually fall out of bed and start screaming "THE HOUSE IS ON FIRE!!!.....WAIT. It's Christmas. Mom's trying to bake again. Screw it." Then I go back to bed for another 3 hours of sleep.

Hmm, I remember one of my first Christmas's. I was questioning this whole "Santa Claus" thing and kept asking my parents if he was real. They kept telling me he was, so I believed it because I thought "my parents would never lie to me." So Christmas morning came and we started to unwrap our presents. There were some that were to me and my brother marked "from mom and dad" and some "from Santa Claus." Well even at that young age I could do some basic reasoning, and I noticed that "Santa" used the exact same wrapping paper, tags, and had the same handwriting as "mom and dad." I kept asking my parents about it and they just kinda sat there not knowing what to say... but I knew it was over. :( I didn't really care that there was no Santa Claus, but I just remember that as being the first Big Lie that my parents told me. I never forgot it. :(

But actually I like Christmas now. I'm not a Christian and out of respect for them don't celebrate it, but I kinda like the whole "Christmas Spirit" crap. I guess when you don't have to shop or have family over Christmas time is pretty cool. I dunno, maybe I'm making up for my lost childhood. :)

When I was told Santa was not real, I called my dad a liar and started to cry.

My siblings & I caused quite a disturbance at my grandparents' house when we matter of factly informed my cousins that there was no Santa.

My parents never told us there was a Santa, no tooth fairy, etc. I don't intend to lie to my children either.

My kids believe in Santa, to some small degree. He brings them one present each, and thats all that fat jolly elf gets credit for. I do all the work, and he is gonna take all the credit? I don't think so. ;)

PsychoAndy: Wow, we could almost be related, from the way that sounds. :D

Azraele: I have three brothers and one sister, so you can figure what my poor mom goes through. My one brother is 16 years younger than me, and my sister is almost 20 years younger. So she has her hands full even now with them. Now, with them being so young and bratty, I get to be the good sibling for once, woohoo! :p

When (if) I ever have kids I think I'll tell them from the start the story of the real Saint Nicholas, and how we keep his spirit alive with the modern notion of "Santa Claus." Of course, I will have to look it up... hell was there even a real Saint Nick? Damn off to Google again for like the 5th time today... :p

Some of my cousins are of a strange religion that doesn't believe in Santa Claus (the idea is blastphemous to them), rather that Jesus brings their gifts. Nothing against their religion, but we did have a problem when they came over here (my mom's side of the family comes to our house for supper on christmas day because we have the biggest house) one year and proceeded to tell all the grandchildren that Santa wasn't real. Santa is one of the best parts of christmas for little kids, keeps it more magical for them. I can't wait till I have little buggers of my own, so I can see the looks of their faces Christmas day.

I don't think its strange that other people don't believe, but I do think that kids should be taught to respect what other people believe in, and keep their own to themselves. I went through that with a friend of mine, she didn't believe in lying to her daughters, which is fine, thats her choice. But do not let your nine year old call my two year old stupid for believing, and let them inform them of the truth because you think its right. But then again, her kids used to tell mine they were going to hell because they were not baptist, so I guess maybe I was expecting too much there to begin with. :p

Perknose: As crazy as my family is, I know how you feel. I joke alot about them, but in the end, they are pretty great. Weird, and unusual, but great, and I wouldn't trade them for the world. A new car yes, but the world is just too much responsibility. ;)

My parents never told me the Santa lie and I never believed in Santa Claus. Yet Christmas was always a magical wonderful time.
I didn't spoil it for my cousins either, although it's hard to figure out what to say when they ask you what Santa brought you. =P

I should note that I still got to enjoy the concept of Santa Claus and would sometimes make drawings or collages of him and other Christmassy things.

I always loved all the DragonLance fiction, but I didn't need to tricked into thinking it was real to enjoy it. =)
