no, they are designed to make a connection when the system is built, then left alone.
most people don't crack open their case and move things around once it's put into service.
Except for most of the people hanging out in this forum.

I broke one by accidentally bumping the cable while I was working inside the case.

I don't even really use USB 3.0 ports period but never had issues with the header port. I've had issues with kb's/mice or other input devices when they are plugged into any of my 3.0 ports..I just don't remember what exactly, I know I never could boot Windows off of USB or something too but I just avoid plugging anything into them.

Yes hate them, bent them. Ended up buying an adapter so my usb 3 are now usb 2 and are connected to another usb header. I dont have any usb 3 devices anyway.

And this, which could explain troubles I was having last year.

The usb 3 connector isn't any different than any other connector on the motherboard. If you use it properly and do not abuse it there's no reason why it shouldn't last for the lifetime of the motherboard. IMHO the sata connectors are the most fragile of the lot.

People have different obsessions and habits.

I'd always thought of USB ports as a "maintenance" peripheral. They're like having a floppy-drive; thumb drive is analog to a 3.5" floppy disc.

You only need the ubiquitous USB2/1 ports for your kybd, mouse, joystick, game controller or receiver.

I use SATA-connected hot-swap bays and caddies for backup, but I keep spare HDDs in USB2 boxes, and I'd modified some of the latter to make eSATA external drives.

But you can build a DAS with Addonics parts (5-drive enclosure + PSU, port-multiplier) and connect with either eSATA or USB3. You can BUY a DAS with USB3/eSATA option. I can see the USB3 ports as desirable for USB3 flash drive use, but -- like I said -- I'm searching for a "deal" on a 64 to 128GB unit that has stellar ratings and performance. Ultimately, it's a "want" item -- not a matter of need. For need, you have your USB2 flash drives of various capacity.

You can also charge your phone and (nicotine-"etc.") vaping device with them, though!
