Does anyone else hate school/professional sports?

I hate pro sports and school sports with a passion. They always ruin my tv schedule and the school sports take away education dollars. I also can't stand people who think sports are important and that "you aren't a man if you don't watch."

Yes its called professional cheerleading.

That and Nascar add up to the worlds most pathetic televised sport. I would rather watch the wood sawing competitions on ESPN2 at least there is some competition there......

I love pro football and pro hockey. i also enjoy playing tackle football w/ the guys and playing roller hockey.

college sports bore me.

instead of worrying about your "tv schedule", which is ruined by sports, go outside and take a walk.

Ask leading questions much?

As far as school sports taking money away from education, you're so far off it's not even funny. School sports, especially at the collegiate level, bring in far more money than they require to support themselves. College football, for example, brings in hundreds of thousands of dollars each year, and you're a damn fool if you think the money it brings in is not spread out over the entire school. Being in the Honors College at my university, I'm not unfamiliar with points of view like yours. In my experience, they are usually borne out of a desire to feel superior in some way. Because the person wants to feel superior, but can't do so in a productive way, they take the easy way out and simply attack something that most people like. This has the added advantage of putting the person in a small group of people who also depricate the same things, making it easier for the person to foster the illusion of being some sort of intellectual elite.

Take it from someone who's been there, get outside, develop a social life, and for heaven's sake loosen up. Even if I agreed with you, I'd be forced to say that you are making far too big of a deal about something that doesn't really matter at all.

Uh...don't school sports make more money for the school than they take away?

I like school and pro sports. They make me feel like a man and/or complete.

That's what I voted, but not for those reasons. I just enjoy watching sports whether it be professional or collegiate/high school :)

Good point, I agree.

ScottyB: Ruin your tv schedule:Q Um, okay. Maybe you can get a tivo and watch old reruns while sports are on?

I think sports are important, but I never thought "you aren't a man if you don't watch."

i dunno about your mis-managed school but at my school the athletics department pays the rest of the university to continue its existance every year.

jeez.. i love the totally unbiased poll... if i love sports, it, for some reason, means it's because i need to feel like a man or feel that it makes me complete.. how about they're entertaining?? how about

and how pathetic is it to hate something because it messes up your t.v. schedule??? i think i had that feeling.. back in like the 5th grade.. why don't you go out and do something.. go play some sports or something

As a part time athlete and a full time student, I don't see how any of your points make sense. Take away money from school? Sports raise money for the school, which has been previously stated.

And why should you hate someone based on an their opinion of one issue?

So sorry about your tv schedule.

For real Indiana University's Athletic Department makes *huge* money for the school. IIRC, it was like $700 million last year.

i like to watch pro sports. The world cup etc is very enjoyable to watch. also things like the us open/wimbledon, can be intresting. i find baseball on tv quite boring, but actully going to the game is rather fun, atmophere etc.

i used to really hate school sports, REALLY. i hated getting no choice, we had to do like 6 weeks of soccer (5 of those weeks would involve no matches, just lame ass runnin and excersises, and stupid ball skills, then last week we'd get to have one match!!! wow)
then 6 weeks of rugby (i'm in UK) , which would be pretty much the same as football, just with a different ball. i'd want to not get all muddy (english weather), but they'd force u to go diving around on the field.
then, *shudder*, u would be forced, (not like pushed, but u weren't given an alternative) to go in the shower, together *shudder*. that's rite, it was like we were prisoners. i dunno what other peoples views are, but 100 boys (yes we were boys) naked (not allowed to like wear swimmim shorts of anything) being send in a line through a big shower was highley uncomfotable (it was like 3 meters long, 1.5m wide, and had little spray jets on the side), then at the end of the shower one on the PE teachers would be standing there, and sometime they'd even say sh!t like 'was your thighs'. I've kinda ranted on abit, but it was very uncomfortable for alot of people, having a naked group shower without choice. sometimes u'd wet your hair and say u'd had one, but sometimes the teacher would find out and make like u and a buddy go in again :S. sorry i sound like i'm homophobic or something, but it just was the suck. that happend from grades 4 to 7.
then when i go to upper school things were better. the sports had more matches etc, showers were optional.
i HATED swimming though. the pool was tiny, and i find swimming very exausting. then this year we got to choose what sports we did (could do sqush , bowling cannoing etc)

so ye i ranted on, though about deleteing it all, but i'm gonna post it anyway :p
