I find that FPS are the worst. Especially when in tight spaces, winding pathways. If it's open area it's okay and third person is OK too...

My g/f watched me play a FPS today and we both nearly vomited after 2 hours.

Yup. That's the #1 reason why I'll never play an FPS.

I get it with any 3D game though, especially if I maneuver the camera a lot.

Nope, never had an issue with motion sickness, but I have had a handful of game give me a feeling of vertigo. The first one I can remember doing it was Jumping Flash (PS1). The most recent game to accomplish that was Crackdown.

Never when I actually play them. But once in a while, while watching someone play an fps game. But I have to eat something that will make my stomach upset first.

I remember when Descent first came out, it warned of motion sickness, even had a friend who got queasy playing it. It was my 1st MP game too. Haven't ever been effected by games myself though.

That was the game that did it for me. I just pushed through it one time and haven't had a problem since.

I get terrible motion sickness from playing or watching FPS. It's a terrible curse. I used to take anti-motion sickness pills when I played Wolf3d and later Doom. It helped little but I usually had to stop after about an hour of play because I was so sick. But like a person allergic to a favorite food, I continue to buy and try to play FPS. It saddens me that I have yet to beat any FPS games because I can't play for more than one hour at a time. Afterwards, I'm sick all day.

I did as a kid but I found that if I "trained" for it (do 30 mins, take a break, do another 30, etc.) it got better. After a few years, it more or less went away. I also found that part of the problem was 1) a CRT monitor and 2) a crappy video card. Make sure that you have good frame rates on what you play because that can make you motion sick all by itself.

Yeah, it happens to me, too. Though with the increasing "realism" in graphics, it's not as bad as when I used to play the early FPS like Heretic, Descent, Doom, etc. Though even Doom 3 a few years ago would affect me if I was moving through a lot of close hallways. And if I watch someone else play.. ugh.

Being in a more outdoor or open space seems to help... Halo for instance didn't bother me at all in the outdoor areas, only gave me trouble when I was running through hallways (or crawlspaces).

Having a deskfan blowing on you seems to help, and definitly take a break for a bit as soon as the queasiness starts, otherwise it just gets worse and lasts longer, at least for me.

Only two games come to mind that have ever done this to me. Turok for the N64 (I think that's the right system) due to the head bob. And Everquest did it as well for some reason.

Luckily, no. I've never had a single problem with FPS games. I have a sibling that does though; we use to play Goldeneye splitscreen, and it always ended cause he felt dizzy or "barf-ish".

Nope, I don't get motion sickness and I don't get car sick. Although that makes me curious, do any of you with motion sickness also tend to get car sick (when reading in the car or whatever)?

I couldn't finish Half Life 2 because it literally made me want to throw up. Didn't have any problems in CSS though.

Same here. Driving around in the vehicles killed me. I kept trying to get through it but I couldn't play for more than 15 min. Or I'd have to lay down for an hour before I felt better. I could play CSS, DOD:S and any of those all day long if I wanted.

Back in the early days of the original quake multiplayer, when it got really intense, my speech would start to slur. Very weird, as I pretty much sounded like someone who is deaf or retarted. If I looked away for a few seconds, it would go away. Neurologist I ran into said my brain was probably redirecting bloodflow from my vocal center to my optical center.

Hasnt happened in quite a while.

That would be a lot of fun to hear on vent.

I get motion sickness if i play in the dark full screen. Call of Duty and Halo got me sick as I was trying to figure out which way the stairs went.
