Does anyone else get mildly annoyed when people preach at them?

I was at the hospital today visiting my friend who has meningitis, and this woman who was in the room was talking to me and because I brought toys (Playdough, coloring books, and of course a barrel of monkeys (fun is like a barrel of monkeys)) she was like is this what 19 year-olds do in their spare time? Play with toys? and I was like I am not 19 until next saturday, and she goes ooh legal drinking age (I live in Canada) are you going to go out and party? I told her that I am not much of a partyer having never actually gotten drunk before, and she said you should not ever get drunk it is not what Jesus would want you to do, and then goes off to some story about how her friends son became an alcoholic, but then god saved him. I believe in god and I am a christian, but I don't really want to hear people say stuff like that to me, I know how things are, and I am really sick of people telling me. Does anyone else get annoyed when people do this?

Yes, preaching is entirely annoying. Especially in that case, where she was preaching telling you not to do something you said you didn't do.

I don't drink either.

Only the preaching got to you? I would have stopped exchanging conversation after the moral judgement on my playdough and barrel of monkeys

Oh but if someone does try to share their faith with me I don't really get irritated, I just tell 'em I'm already there or something like that and if they seem nice enough I continue to converse, otherwise I just kind of move along.

Sorry to hear about your friend.. how is she doing?

She is doing much better than she was, but it will be a few months before she is fully recovered, and she has to be in the hospital till sometime next week. They had to give her a spinal tap and she was not to happy about that so they gave her some drugs that got her high . Unfortunately she has group b meningitis which is supposedly untreatable, and so they are just pumping her full of drugs to kill the bacteria. I am hoping that she will get better soon.

The instant someone starts pressuring god, jesus, allah, whatever, I tell them strait up that I don't wanna hear it. You can preach all you want, just to go your local chapel or whatever.

If they're right up in my face with it, I could become very unpredictable. I doubt if I would ever punch them or anything, I'm not like that. But my annoyance might cause some unpredictable verbage -kd5-

I think I would just have told her that her reasoning is flawed and her beliefs illogical... that should be enough to push her over the edge

I drink a lot...my friends also drink a lot. They somehow don't care about drinking but somehow they preach for hours anytime they saw a random person smoking in Europe. It got so damn annoying...Jeez, no wonder they hate Americans
