Because I don't use sauce on REAL steak: AKA porterhouse or ribeye.

But I do tend to ask for a few extra scoops of the good stuff when ordering chinese dishes or anything BBQ related.

Does anyone else drown their food in various sauces?

no

i prefer sauce to heighten, complement, or accentuate the taste of the food, not cover the food so all i taste is sauce, if that was the case, id just suck sauce down like a beverage; but thats me.

Chicken breast covered in El Yucateco red habanero sauce and grilled to a crisp.
Man that sounds good right now.

The food is a vessel for the sauce. It adds substance and complements the taste (err... well, the sauce complements the taste of the food)

I like that fancy mustard. You could put that fancy mustard on a shoe and it would taste pretty good to me!

You're gonna be really hot when you're 30 and fat.

My metabolism hasn't shown any signs of slowing down yet... my mom weighs 105 lbs after 4 children, so I think I'm okay. ;)

Many sauces tend to have nearly zero calories or fat. They are often just spices which add lots of flavor and nothing harmful. Yes, some sauces are mayo based, but many aren't.

Think of salsa for example. Tons of fruit/veggies in salsa. It is very healthy. What you put the salsa on (fat filled / sour cream filled burrito for example) tends to be far less healthy than the sauce.

So in a way, sauces can be the world's healthiest foods.

Sauce is usually the unhealthy part of the food. I don't know why someone would eat a salad then drown it in highfat dressing.

You're kidding, right?

While there are low cal condiments like salsa and mustard, many of them are the worst part of the meal for you. Take a look sometime, you'd be shocked. Laden in fat and oil, sodium, and corn syrup.

No I'm not kidding. Most sauces are quite healthy. Yes, some are oil (mayo) based. But the majority aren't bad. And sodium is only bad if you have high blood pressure.

you still get the fibre and vitamins

sauces may be unhealthy but the amount you take is so small, i can hardly see how it really matters in the big picture.
