i do it so that surfing AT at work is more discrete.
just used another pc and poked around without logging in and wow, some of you have great avatars.
unfortunately, i'm logged in now so i can't say who.

yes i turn them off because i browse at work also.

i frequent another forum that doesn't have this option and is pisses me off. looks like i'm on some childrens forum because of it. i actually don't go to that forum much anymore.

i disable in line images as well as sigs too.

Can't you just use an ad blocker to block URLs matching a particular format?

I leave everything enabled (avatars, images, sigs), but I use Adblock to block some of the stupider avatars, and I have some people on my ignore list because I got tired of seeing their signature. In-line images are the best thing that happened with the move to vBulletin (that is, after the admins finally relented and started limiting their display size).

I don't on AT, but I do on another forum I post on.

the forum is kinda annoying -- they enforce a policy of no-NSFW content in the "general" sub-forums (wherein NSFW is typically defined as any below the waist nudity), but a lot of people still have pornographic avatars and signatures and those aren't really policed at all, so I just disable them at work.

Avatars on! It throws me off when people change their avatar because thats how i remember them, megaman guy, epic face squinty eye guy, three birds guy, mouse humping comp mouse guy etc

I also leave avatars on so I can tell who is posting without actually looking at the name. Sigs off though because there are so many people who have sigs that are way too long.

I'm actually kinda surprised so many people have avatars and sigs turned off. Seems like you're just depriving yourself of the forum experience.

Same with blocking people. I don't care how much I disagree with someone, I wouldn't block them. Defeats the whole purpose of a discussion forum if you can just live in your own walled off little world and only talk to people that share the same world view as you.

Sigs are pretty much pointless IMO, at least displaying them anyway. I can view your sig with one click, I don't need to see it all the time. Why do I want to see how many miles you've driven your cars every single time you post? Your sig (for example) takes up more space than your actual post (6 lines vs 5). With a widescreen monitor my vertical space is valuable.
