STFU. :p

for reals! I'm in fifth gear at 3000rpm's doing 69mph :( MPG drops off sharply after 3100 rpm so I rarely take my car over 3000, which also means I try to avoid highway driving (thankfully the only highway around here has a speed limit of 65mph :))

if you avoid highway driving to save gas that might not be the best route. city stop N Go is much worse on MPG and your car

My engine is at 3000rpm at 80mph, more like 3500rpm at 90mph. Not a big deal.

I don't understand... My car is always at 4k RPM at 80 mph in 5th gear. I don't think it's possible for it to be at any other RPM at that speed in 5th gear.

80mph is typical speed on just about any major highway that I've been on.

If you don't like seeing it, put some duct tape over the tac.

My car does like 3100 or something at that speed.

does anyone else become disappointed/anxious when the engine is running at 2800rpm @ 80mph?

...only if it's a diesel.
