For those that care the pixel 3xl is 200 off at google plus 200 credit for effectively 400 off. The lg g7 is 349 at google (if you sign up for google fi) but no google fi credit.

BTW @ you2, the battery drain overnight is around 10% and not 4%. I tested it last night. It went from 75% to 65%. Don't know where I got 4% from.

Ok thanks. Still trying to decide - i guess i have four options - stay with note 4 another year or two; pixel 3xl $500; g7 $349 or note 9 $800. The money aspect isn't a huge deal it is more the frustration that you can't buy a phone anymore - you get a small computer with built in vendor analytics and stuff that add no functionality or lack of functionality to push ecosystem (no function -> samsung edge screen; lack of functionality -> no sd slot).

The note 4 really isn't that bad even now 4 years later - it just lacks software updates.

I just received my new pixel 3 xl that I bought on Black Friday for $200 off (Canada).
So far the phone is working great, I was worried because I read reports of static/interference noise from the ear piece when on a call, loud speaker distortion, etc. but the phone doesn't exhibit any of these issues so I am very happy!

Reception was my main reason for upgrading because my iPhone 8 Plus (Intel Modem) would often drop the connection, but so far the Pixel has been able to stay on LTE in places the iPhone couldn't.

At this point in time, you might as well wait around to see what the Snapdragon 8150 can do.

I agree. It's difficult to believe that the memory management was so bad initially compared to how it is now. And the Pixel 2 XL suffered from the same problem with Android 9. Google really needs to fire the product manager for the Pixel series. He or she has truly made some very questionable decisions

Yeah agreed. That and their QC department needs some work. I noticed my speakers no longer distort at low volume like before. Maps doesn't close now and you can run a lot of apps in the background without issues. They also open a lot quicker now.

These are things that should not have been issues in the first place.

Not sure if the 8150 is the same as the newly announced 855; but i suspect most american high end phones will be based off of 855 for 5g.

Did you test those links you posted in the Note 9 thread? Both of those videos still have some distortion for me. To be fair though, I haven't noticed any distortion effects from any other audio sources except those two specific videos:

Yeah I looked at those again. They are more accepting to listen to than before. The software update seems to have lowered the frequency of low end so its not blaring out. I was mostly noticing it on videos with spoken words at low to mid volume. But now that's gone as I've watched several of those videos again. But there is something about piano music that still sets it off a little bit.

They made it better but I still think these speakers, while they are very good, should not have passed QC.

I'm currently using a Nexus 6p and was hoping that the new Pixel 3 could replace it. I'm not happy about the notch if they make it cut into the screen vs using the space for notifications. But, so far from the leaks it looks meh in terms of hardware.

These are musts for me, so maybe next time round Google. Say what you will about Samsung, but I like the fact that they leave "legacy" features like those on their phones; it doesn't offset all the cruft they load up, but it helps. S9+ inbound.

Yeah Google hasn't had an SD card in phones for a while now. I do know they will be planning to release a 3 and 3xl lite (no notch) with a headphone jack. Not the latest processor but decent enough and will most likely be priced lower. Instead of glass back it will have some sort of carbon fiber shell.
