Does anyone besides Sony and Samsung make a widesceen LCD?

I won't buy the Sony because there's no DVI and the Samsung pixel pitch and resolution isn't that great.

I'm pretty sure I saw a Viewsonic 17" 16:10 LCD at an electronics superstore recently. It was actually quite nice. Very good contrast, and viewing angles, I think the pixel picth was ~.27. It ran around $800-900 though. I'll try to track down the model. Can't remember if it had DVI.

I'm test-driving the Samsung 172W 17" 16:10 LCD. While it's ergonomics are beautiful, I've got a few nits to pick with the picture quality as well, mainly with the "blacks", and weak viewing angles. So I'm looking for something else.

FWIW, I thought a widescreen would be ideal for me, since my applications principally involve widescreen video. But after using it for a few weeks, I'm finding that I miss some of the extra headroom/resolution of a 4:3. The vertical resolution of the 172W is only 768, and pixel pitch is ~.29. So the experience is a bit more akin to a 15" 4:3, in some ways.

I think Phillips has launched a 17inch widescreen LCD for the mainstream butI 'm not sure how it is. I think I saw it in gamepc.

FWIW, here's the one I was thinking of: ViewSonic N1700W

This user didn't have a very positive reaction to it, but it does have DVI-D in and the computer input looked pretty nice to me for the brief period I saw it. Might wanna poke around for some other opinions before taking a swing at it though. Some Fry's stores carry it.

Sony makes two widescreen LCD displays...

One is the 17" SDM-V72W (1280x768 resolution) and the other is the 23" SDM-P232W/B (1920 x 1200).

The 23" has two DVI-D and two VGA inputs. I've seen it and it's gorgeous. It's also $2600.
The 17" isn't all that impressive, really. A standard 17"/18" (1280 x 1024) LCD has more usable space and can be had for less than the SDM-V72W's $800 price tag. I don't think it has DVI inputs, but it does have video, s-video and component-video inputs, plus audio, making it suitable for use as an HDTV monitor.
