Does anyone actually use the Haswell IGP in a desktop.

Just picked up an I5 4440 and have a Z87 board on the way. All I'm using my computer for these days are office apps, a construction estimating and takeoff program that isn't very demanding and the usual internet stuff. Don't game or watch movies.

Would want to run two monitors, one 27" @ 2560x1440 and a 24" @ 1920x1200.

Not sure if this question should be in this forum or the CPU forum.

Looking to keep this build as energy efficient and as quiet as possible.

Can't tell about Haswell but I do use my Core i7 2600's HD2000 IGP, which is my secondary PC and haven't found the need for a discrete GPU. Definitely very usable(even more so with a better performance Haswell IGP) for basic, non-gaming related tasks.

According to ARK Intel, the Core i5 4440 should support up to 3 monitors. You might want to double check if the board supports multiple monitors from an IGP DVI/VGA/HDMI output.

DVI for the 1440p and HDMI-to-DVI for the 1080p, provided your mobo has those ports onboard.

The GPU is definitely capable of it - you just need the actual connectors to work optimally.

The board has both of these ports, will set it up this way.

Thanks for the responses, first Intel build so I'm unsure of a few things still.

I've read somewhere before that DVI-D still isn't supported on an HD 4600 - only single link. I think you'd need to use either DP or HDMI for the 1440p monitor (depending on brand). It also means your 1200p monitor would have to be set at 1080p over DVI (unless you use HDMI or DP for it as well)

Here's a page (not the one I'd read but a similar question/response) I Googled about it: https://communities.intel.com/thread/44135

Singlelink DVI supports 1920*1200.

Hmmm.... let us know how it goes... there's a moderate chance it might not work well and you may need a very cheap video card to get the 1440p done right.

I will. Probably not going to put things together until next weekend.
