Motorcycling. Balaclava is necessary for winter riding in most places. I rode from Newnan, GA to San Diego, CA without one and my entire face and chest were peeling and shedding skin for weeks. I didn't even know you could chap more than your lips.

I use one for snow boarding when it is very cold, windy, or when snow is coming down. Not really a typical ski mask though, more like a ninja mask looking balaclava

Not skiing - never been.

I did wear one though when I'd drive forklift at Walmart in the winter. The empty pallets and bales of compressed cardboard had to be organized at the end of the nightshift, and that could take more than an hour.

I'd still be willing to do it because it meant being away from the customers, and I could get off my feet for a bit. :D

I've used something like this for skiing. It helps a ton.

Well isn't that just special.

It looks like a combination of the most poorly-made beanie ever, and also you're wearing a turtleneck and someone farted.

I ski and usually wear a balaclava for winter skiing, not so much for spring as it just gets too hot. I wear a thin balaclava, not really much insulation at all but just enough to cut the wind from reaching my skin and stop the snow spray from making me cold. This is it: http://www.rei.com/product/791256/talus-coldavenger-expedition-balaclava it also goes over my entire head and absorbs the sweat on my scalp. I feel it keeps my helmet from getting stinky, much easier to was the balaclava than my helmet.

I use this one when its cold and/or windy, like 20 and below days. Its far thicker but I cant use it during normal freezing temps; it gets me way too hot. I like how it also covers my mouth and nose fo added warmth. http://www.rei.com/product/725708/seirus-ultra-clava

This is the ultimate balaclava here http://www.rei.com/product/791256/talus-coldavenger-expedition-balaclava Perfect for below zero temps, winter camping or winter mountaineering. Dont have it yet but I'd like t try it.
