Does anyone actually buy the "clean" (edited) copy of a CD?

i don't know anybody that buys these... does it even make sense for the record companies to make these two different kinds?

Lots of people do... I think it was either an issue of Rolling Stone or Entertainment Weekly I was reading that had the top sales charts on Billboard or something.

It listed the clean and unedited versions seperately and in most cases the clean version was quite close to the unedited version in total sales. I found that pretty surprising. But it makes sense for most parents. They help their kids buy music like they should and take an active involvement in their kids.

hmm... that's surprising.. do you think that is because people want to buy it, or because a lot of people accidentally bought it?

btw if my kid was old enough to like music with swear words in it, i would buy him the real versions.

around Christmas, we had a handful of people looking for edited (non-dirty) copies of the latest rap albums, like wu-tang and 8 mile. Unfortunately, kmart doesn't sell edited copies at the time...just recently, we acquired some edited copies of 8 mile.

therre are some cases where the clean/edit version is more preferable, one example being 'the next episode'

what is that? why is the clean version preferable? does it sound a lot better?

no sound difference...but if you DJ for a high school or do any kind of broadcasting/playing music in front of the parents, then i'm sure that an edited copy is preferred.

i worked in a record store and one time i had a mom there with her kid. She demanded the clean version of Metallica Garage Inc. I felt sorry for her kid...he was like 15 or so. It isn't like that is a CD with a lot of cussing either...took me forever to find that damn CD in the 100's we had (it had just come out).

So she buys them i guess. I never would, nor would I if i had a kid.

Back when I DJ'ed high school parties/dances, yes.
