I have a client who is having problems loading Secureway Personal COmmunications AS/400 version 4.3.1 on a new set of systems. They are all 1.3 Ghz Intel Monterrey systems with 256 Meg of memory running Win 98se. When she tries to install the software from the cd, she gets a JCE error, if she tries to install over the network, she gets missing dll file errors. She checked with IBM and said they were almost no help. So far, we have tried fdisking, formatting, and reloading the OS by hand (it had had an image on it, we thought at first the problem might lie there), and of course messing around with the java controls on the advanced tab of the Internet Properties window. None of it has helped. She has several older systems running 95 and 98 that install and run the software fine, but for some reason these new ones won't. Any ideas? (Loading a different OS is not an option at this point, but if you seriously think it would help, let me know.)

/edit for clarification

We just use ibm's client access on our 9x machines to allow them to use the as/400, it seems to work with the exception of being a memory hog.

Hope you can find some help :)

*shudder* client access *shudder*

I loathe that software. I have never in my life seen one program add so many lines to the msconfig startup apps.

I loaded client access on a fresh install of Win2k. It nuke the machine. Poor pooter wouldn't even boot into windows all the way. It would just hang trying to load explorer.exe.

I've had better luck with client access express.

BTW- I have a win98se machine that client access refuses to run on.

Tauren:

Do you know if it had any problems during the installation, or did it go in smooth?

vi: I'll agree client is a real demon spawn to get working often! What is this client access express? Is it less of a ram hog? I feel sorry for the users with 64-128 megs of ram who have to run it.....
