Tonight's Financial Times headline:

‘High-value’ executives entering England to get quarantine waiver
Performing arts professionals and recently signed elite sports players will also avoid need to self-isolate over Covid

Todays Washington Post:
Robert Kraft dodged charges from prostitution sting. The Orchids of Asia employees did not.

What ever happened to liberty and justice for all. Or has it always been just for those who can afford it?

Why are there exceptions for the rich?

Corruption.

Humans have always behaved this way, despite our best efforts to create institutions to protect against it.
Discovery recently had a thing about the rise of Caesar. Yea, this all sounds familiar. They used to say it was because they were all sinners and had bad morals. At least, that was the line I was fed. It's always about money and power.

Government was the problem...preventing the rich from becoming oligarchs.

Now they write the laws to benefit themselves and have convinced close to half the electorate that the reason their QOL has stagnated for 40 years is because of POOR people, rather than the millionaires who've become billionaires. That CHINA stole jobs, even though here in reality US Corporations SENT FACTORIES OVERSEAS so they could keep more money for themselves.

That's the Thatcher/Reagan Revolution for ya. Voodoo economics backed by a constant barrage of never-ending oligarch propaganda.

When 40-50% of congressmen and senators are millionaires (depending on the method used to assess wealth), why wonder about why laws, policies, and procedures in this country all seem to favor the rich?

Sometimes I think as Americans we think to fondly of the good old days. Just how long were those days and who were they good for? Serval decades following WWII is my guess. We haven't been a nation all that long in the grand scheme.

With that said, we definitely need to get the money out of politics. The hard part will be getting enough people elected to actually do that.

I'm fine with this
From 4am on Saturday 5 December, individuals undertaking specific business activity which would deliver a significant benefit to the UK economy – including activity that creates or preserves 50+ UK jobs – will no longer need to self-isolate when travelling or returning from non-exempt countries.

Individuals will only be exempt when undertaking the specific business activity and will only be able to meet with others as required by that specific activity. Further information will be available on gov.uk when these exemptions come into force.

Exemptions will also come into force at the same time for domestic and international performing arts professionals, TV production staff, journalists, and recently signed elite sportspersons, ensuring that industries which require specific, high talent individuals who rely on international connections can continue to complete their work.

Awwww this is so sweet and cute. It makes me just want to pick you right up off your feet and give you a big ol hug. Did your college profs not teach you how the real world works? Let me guess they just taught you how it's suppose to work in that idyllic world they live in.

News flash son....if liberty and justice for all was a real thing there wouldn't be so many young black men in prison right now and those assholes on Wall Street who sucker millions of Americans into buying there bullshit would be in prison. You already know that ain't how the world works though and it never has so why'd you even ask the fuckin question.

VS being full fucktard stupid like your republican idols? How many of the trump elite are going to hold huge indoor Christmas parties against the rules, the recommendation, and fucking common sense?

But why do I ask a fucking stupid trump humper that would attend, if invited.

Reminded me of one of the best science fiction books ever written. Good stuff, and even a sequel.

Vote vote vote vote vote vote... And engage actively.
Power corrupts, it would corrupt you and me too, the best we can do is to create power structures like separation of powers and build upon that, and when the house of cards reaches another high... more separation of power... transparency and accountability.
Work towards it. Vote towards it. Never stop. Its a never ending fight due to our own very nature.
I think its an inherent fallacy most of us are born with? That things from inception are by default fair. They are not. We make em so.

Wealthy and connected get antibody COVID treatments unavailable to most Americans

Nice story from Axios.

We have the highest health care costs in the world and not so great outcomes. I spend close to 12,000 a year before my insurance picks up costs and yet I am still way down the line if I get Covid, But to be Rudy!

What they're saying: "If it wasn't me, I wouldn't have been put in a hospital frankly," Giuliani told WABC radio. "Sometimes when you're a celebrity, they're worried if something happens to you they’re going to examine it more carefully, and do everything right."

  • "Mr. Giuliani's candid admission once again exposes that Covid-19 has become a disease of the haves and the have-nots," NYT writes.

No way in this pay to play administration.
