I was hoping I could get some advice for my draft tonight...

I am thinking about trying to get good infielders early (esp SS and 2nd) as well as IRod, Piazza, or Posada at catcher in one of the middle rounds as those positions are short on quality players. I was thinking I should pick up ARod and the best SP that is left when I get my two picks (8th and 9th).

Also, would it be better to pick up an above average player in a position where there aren't many great players rather than a great player in a position where there is an abundance of talent.

Any thoughts??

We are drafting tonight at 5:20 EST.

I have Posada on one of my other fantasy teams....he's one of the highest ranked catchers, why do you say dont pick him up?

Yes, it is best to get high-quality players at a position like catcher first. Fantasy-wise, it's usually a bad idea to draft a first baseman or something first because there are a ton of first basemen who put up excellent stats.

Yeah, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't using some flawed logic. My outfielders will come from the later rounds most likely...

all depends on your available slots, in my league there are all the infield positions, + 5 of + 2 utility slots, then 5 starting pitchers, 3 relief pitchers, 1 pitcher

i got burned by era & whip last year...so, i went all the best pitchers first, then started on position players

ended up with pedro, kevin brown, maddux, hampton, leiter.
then got lucky and was able to draft klesko, luis gonzalez..and a couple of others. was also able to pickup pujols as free agent early in the year!

so, when people got desperate for pitching...you know who they're coming to! i was able to trade pedro for helton, awesome move, and a few other things...

again, this all depends on what you have to work with as far as positions, and how good the people you are playing against are

if it lets you you can take a look at what i've put together, (bearcats suck)

Thanks for the advice. I am still going to go for ARod and a SP my first two picks...I'll post my team in order of draft after its over.

The link wouldn't let me see your team, but I get the idea. Sounds like you did very well.
