Does anybody make a black, 5 button, corded mouse?

- without any LEDs on top, not requiring it's own software install and preferably ergonomic along the lines of an MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0...

Steelseries Sensi RAW meets those requirements and is similar in size/shape.

It has LED's on the top, but they can be disabled. Requires the software though (at least once).

It isn't black. It has a LED visible from the top. But thanks.

I've been looking at that, it's pretty close to what I want, but it's ambidextrous and I'd rather do without the right side buttons (even though I guess they can be disabled via the software). Also, some users claim that the rubber sides rather quickly deteriorate.

Speaking of software, do these mouse drivers have to be run at startup, or can you use them to set up your mouse once, then keep them from running?

The closest I've found seems to be the Zowie EC1-A. Plug-and-play, right shape, 5 buttons, corded and comes in black. But the wheel LED doesn't turn off (might have to get it anyway and tear out the LED.)

It just seems like such a basic design that there should be more options...

That Kensington does tick all the right boxes, thank you.

Looked black to my eyes. And you stated the MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 and that's what that was so you should have already known about the LED.

I've used that exact MS IE 3.0 before so I do know about the LED. I merely mentioned it as en example of the ergonomic shape I was looking for. Sorry for any confusion. It's also more of a 3 colour design with the black, dark and light grey.

I've also used a (white) MS Comfort Mouse 6000 like the one you linked, and price aside the black one you found would be perfect. Seems even more expensive locally, with prices on Amazon between £70 and £100 (about $110 to $155).

Those prices are overly ridiculous, but I guess they indicate that there might be a least a couple others looking for something like this...

you want the Zowie FK1

Thanks for the suggestion, but that looks like a step back from the Zowie EC1 I mentioned above. The yellow scroll wheel looks worse than the white (assuming I can kill the underlying LED), and it's ambidextrous with those annoying right side buttons.

the FK doesnt have leds on it. the side buttons work well and the ones on the opposite sides are hard to even notice they exist. the mouse does not use drivers, polls naturally at 1000hz, every dpi step is native, and the sensor is 1:1 perfect.

thats all i'm gonna say.

Well, I'm looking for an ergonomic right-hander, but it's comforting to hear that you have good experiences with a Zowie product.

Do anyone here know how hard it would be to open up a Zowie EC1-A and disable the LED?

If the LED lights bother you that much I would think a few layers of black paint should be able to make them non visible. That would really open up your options.

The Microsoft Comfort Mouse 4500 has the usual two buttons and web wheel with two side buttons. I programmed the side buttons as page up and page down buttons. I can game with it (the new Unreal Tournament demo etc.).

Thanks for the suggestion, but again, it's sadly not ergonomic.

If only they still offered the black Comfort Mouse 6000 (at a reasonable price), I would be all set...

I may have seen that before and discounted it, as I think the design is a bit too messy, but if I happen to come across it I'll be sure to check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.
