It just should not be. If just got a high end system and my entire windows GUI and Windows Media Player is filled with screen tearing bugs. It just doesnt make sense.

Is this problem just me or is it very common. In either case, there has to be a fix.

The problem is that i dont know whats causing the problem. It has to be only one of three fixes, either a windows fix, the graphics card, or windows XP Home SP2.

Ive read countless people on forums talking about it, but nobody had a simple explanation. The only idea that seems to be floating is that Windows MCE2005 could be a sure cure. But im also thinking it could be ATI, and for this reason i may consider getting an Nvidia card.

But before i go off spending that kind of cash, i have to know if these are the source to the problem.

Anybody know what the hell this is all about.

P.S. I dont have V-sync, as its not the cause, and i dont think there is any possible setting in CCC that may fix the problem, as i have tried everything. So if there was a fix, it would be like providing directX with flipping or double buffering or some registry edit.

I dont know what to do.

If you're running on an LCD you need to enable vsynch. Tearing is caused by screen buffer updates overalapping the screen scan. On much higher frequency CRTs you don't see it as obviously, but on LCDs it is almost always an issue without vsynch enabled.

You are right, and i will double check. But i have already tried V-sync as it does nothing to remove the tearing on the standard desktop user interface, or the so called GDI. Another words, i get screen tearing when i use the 'my pictures slideshow' screensaver with a bunch of plain varying shades of gray images that are played at full screen. This should not be. ith media player, i am only limited to one setting to get no tearing. But right now, im concerned because my entire windows has screen tearing, and i dont know if its even possible to fix this problem.

Is it possible that any DVI connected LCD will always have thss problem. I cant believe that Microsoft cant put together such a basic function, one of the most basic fundamental functions, the proper rendering of the GUI of windows.

I don't think Microsoft is responsible for how display manufacturers and GPU developers choose to implement the GUI. It renders without tearing on most hardware combinations, so obviously there is nothing wrong on the software side.

If you just upgraded to an LCD, you'll notice more motion jitter and some blurring at the higher resolutions, especially if you have a lower end graphics card. LCDs are mostly limited to 60 hz vertical scan rates, whereas CRTs refresh as high as 85 hz or higher. I run a Dell LCD at 1920 x 1200 with a 6800 and the GUI display is not as smooth. If it is happening with specific programs like the slideshow you mentioned, then there is probably something else going on.

Which likely still wouldn't be Microsoft's fault.

This problem with tearing has occured on just about every damn computer ive seen lately, from my sisters, to my old system, to a buddys of mine running MCE, and even at the demo computers at a computer store. So its not related to my graphics card compatibility with my display or windows. Because those other computers were running ATI and Nvidia cards, using Xp home, Xp pro, MCE2k5. And since i have no tearing in media player with VMR, then that means that its not related to hardware incapabiities, but simply software conflicts.

But i need to think things over before continuing with this discussion since i have to try to exmain compliances and incompliances in my assessments.

However, im thinking that maybe i may want to use dual link DVI cable. My monitor only needs single link, but strangely it has a dual link DVI connection.

EDIT: Actually, i think im mistake. The single and dual link female ends of the DVI cable looks very similar.
