Does anybody know of any completely clear computer cases?

If I wanted a completely clear computer case, does a company make them or do I have to build it myself? Thanks.

Problem with a clear case (or a clear side) is that acrylic does not shield EM/RF emissions from your computer so you are polluting the surrounding area. May or may not be important to you.

What are EM/RF emissions?

Sunbeam and Logisys are usually the same products under different names. As was mentioned above, the clear cases are really only recommended for computer shows and in-store displays. I don't recommend them for daily use computers in home or office for difficulty in keeping clean, noise, cooling and lack of EMI/RFI shielding.

What are EM/RF emissions?

EM - Electro Magnetic

RF - Radio Frequency

EM/RF Emissions are considered "unhealthy" for a human body. Even though the computer probably emits little EM/RF, an average person spends a signifficant amount of time with his/her PC. Therefore that person is probably putting his/her health at risk by using a clear case on daily basis.

An example of harmful RF is your cellphone. It is said to cause cancer and make men sterile. Off course this has not been 100% proven yet, but for some peple(like me) it is already enough to understand that RF is a serious problem. Then again, my friend spends an average of 2-4 hours on a cellphone every day, and he is fine.

In the end you have to understand that all this info must be taken with a grain of salt because we live in a VERY unhealthy environment in general. The sun is bombarding us with radiation, our wall sockets emit EM, our TV does too.... Our cordless phone is emits RF, and so on and so forth. The key here, is to educate yourself about these things, and remember that moderation in everything is important.

Yeah, I think every electronic emits radiation, we were talking about this in a thread a long time ago and it appears that people have diffrent views about the issue. I don't think there is significant proof in either direction as of now, but thanks for the info regarding clear cases, would it help keeping the desktop itself as far away from you as possible?

honestly I would recommend not getting a glowing beast of a computer. It may seem awesome at first but after a few months it gets old. Especially if there are LEDs on the front of it, those tend to be really bright and if for some reason your computer is at eye level... it really sucks.

Yeah, I have a friend who taped the entire front of his computer with masking tape because the lights would annoy him when he uses it when it's dark.

Distance will definitely play a factor since radiation decays rather fast. Kindda defeat the purpose of a clear case no? The ideal clear case would be acrylic but has a metal mesh embedded in the acrylic, say like a sandwich of acrylic/mesh/acrylic. Then you see most of it while still containing the emissions.

My old Silverstone Berserker's window had sort of like a chicken-wire pattern metallic overlay that contacted the metal door all around it as a barrier to emi/rfi. I think all windows and such should have something like that or carbon fiber threads embedded in it like some microwave oven windows.

carbon fiber does not act as a shield. carbon fiber is not conductive. the mesh in your microwave is some sort of metal foil or stamped sheet stock.

Gawd, this is pathetic!!!

Look, according to almost everyone on this site (except myself) buying an acrylic case is a mistake. You WILL be sorry, and you WILL die from cancer of the eyeballs, or whatever.

If you don't care, throw caution to the wind and buy a Sunbeam AC9B-T, and die in peace, knowing you bought the best acrylic case available! :D

I don't mean to call FUD on an experienced member in a forum I don't even post in, but this is taking the absolute pi**. Show me the studies showing that RF radiation harms humans, please. In fact, here's one for you that shows no increased risk in cancer due to mobile phone usage. Just because it's "radiation" doesn't mean it's dangerous. I've not gotten cancer from my radio or TV yet.
