Does anybody know how to ensure a package doesn't get "lost" in transit from India to the U.S.?

My dad insisted on buying a laptop for my uncle when he went there a while back, even though he stated he didn't need one.

It's been sitting in the closet all this time (~1 year), and they want to sell it (people are telling them its only worth $100, and they're asking me if that's ok). I told them fvck no, that's just retarded, and to ship it back to me.

Problem is -- Indians are the most corrupt people in the world. I had to ship something to my grandmother a few years ago and it never got there. My sister recently received a letter from some store, and the envelope had been opened and then retaped. If I wanted them to ship the laptop to me, how can I ensure it doesn't get "lost"?

It depends on how corrupt your dad is - unless of course he is not an Indian in which case obviously he would not be corrupt. But if he were really corrupt, he could try to smuggle it in or something - surely as an Indian he would know how to do that

The only way that my family sends expensive stuff to/from india is in the luggage of family members going there.

My uncle ships things all the time and they are completely fine on arrival.

Yeah? If you read my original post I don't have the best luck with that. Do they have the ability to ship with tracking info (delivery confirmation, etc?)

I think that UPS and Fedex will let you track and insure stuff to india from the usa, but I don't know about the other way around.

Not that its relevant, but i'm indian as well.

it became relevant the moment you started stereotyping.

Underwear too tight? Lighten up.

I guess you can call me an "ABCD," and don't even try to deny that there isn't widespread corruption in india. I bet you'll get offended if I say indians in general are cheap?

Yeah...unfortunately we don't know of anybody going there in the near future. I'll try to ask them if there is a UPS of Fedex ship center or something over there...thanks.

Dude they aren't being uptight, you sound like an idiot.

Like Savij said above use UPS or Fedex. Its incredibly SIMPLE. Those are multinational corporations that I'm sure ship to India.

And go to school.

Oh yeah, UPS and Fedex were insanely expensive too. The USPS rate for one item was $15 and UPS/Fedex wanted $80+ so it may not be worth it.

Brain too small to realize that if you insult people when asking them for help you are not going to get much help?

Actually, I do - and it gives me 30 mpg and I have been using it for the past 8 years - and I also have an ULEV Accord. But that probably doesn't matter since your corrupt daddy probably pays for your gas - and your car.
