i hear people occasionally talk like that, and it tends to irritate me...is that normal? or is it just a completely wrong and annoying way of talking?

Excellent topic. On TV and in real life, I used to hear people say that all the time! At first, I thought it was just the uneducated, but then I heard the so-called educated speak that way, too. In fact, I got confused for a while, but I stuck with what I knew to be the proper grammar.Originally posted by: neonerd

Dad: Like eh, I says to your mam, "Did ya mak tha tatties la?" She says der in da kitchen, but der not der.
Fiancee: You're locked, da. They're in da kitchen.
Dad: Lay off! I won't be havin me fool o'a daughter be eatin ma head off! Wat bout ya boyo?
Me: What?
Dad: Have a lash off la.
Me: Um... :: Drinks beer and looks around in a panic::
Fiancee: Da, stop it.
Dad: Shut you gob, ya stella!
continue ad infinitum.
